16u Championship Recap: Day 5

Jordan Posway
After a dramatic day five of the 16u National Championship, only two teams are left standing. Marucci Raley will square off against the reigning national champions, Tri-State Arsenal, Monday morning with the 16u title hanging in the balance. Here’s a brief summary of the semifinal action from Sunday afternoon in Emerson:

Tri-State Arsenal erased a two-run deficit in the fifth inning to stun the Rijo Athletics 6-3. Tyler Juhl got the ball rolling for the Arsenal in the top of the fifth, as he kick-started the Arsenal’s four-run rally with an RBI single to right field. Adam Holland had a spectacular afternoon at the plate, finishing 3-3 with a double and a pair of singles. With the comeback victory, the Arsenal will move one step closer to defending their title.

It was an exciting semifinal brawl on Field 9 as Marucci Raley edged the 643 DP Cougars Sterling 4-3 in extra innings. Tied at three in the top of the eighth, Ladarius Woods launched a no-doubter over the left field fence to record the game-winning run. Woods' eighth-inning blast was his second home run of the day, and the exclamation point on a phenomenal 3-4 day from the dish.

With Sunday’s semifinal round in the books, the stage is set for a highly-anticipated championship game. Tri-State Arsenal and Marucci Raley will duke it out at 10:15 Monday morning on Field 12.
