Cincinnati Spikes				NW Bandits Black

Pool play concluded on day three of the PG Super25 15u National Championship, and the schedule is set for round one of the playoffs. Championship bracket play will commence Sunday morning at 8:00. Here is a quick summary of the action from Saturday afternoon in Emerson:

Tri-State Arsenal concluded pool play undefeated with back-to-back victories over Rockets Baseball and the SA Angels. David Yourke and Chris Sabino starred in the Arsenal’s 6-1 win against the Rockets. Yourke notched nine strikeouts over seven innings, while Sabino crushed a two-run bomb in bottom of the fourth. The Arsenal rolled over the Angels 6-0 in their final game thanks to a complete game shutout by Dylan Decker.

The Rockets would lose a second straight game 3-0 against the Slammers-Coyote-Horr. Riley Kocen frustrated the Rockets’ batters for seven innings, allowing a mere three hits in a complete game performance.

However, the Slammers-Coyote-Horr ran out of gas against the Georgia Seminoles. Jordan Heath’s bases-clearing double in the fifth inning was the difference as the Seminoles downed the Slammers 10-7.

The Chattanooga Mustangs pummeled Team Alabama 6-0 with five runs in the opening two innings. The Mustangs never relinquished the lead after Sam Zettel’s two-run single to center field.

The Ironmen Baseball Club had no trouble with the Blacksox Elite as they coasted to a convincing 13-1 victory in a short four-inning contest. Andrew Arnold and Gabe Bierman had their way with the Blacksox Elite’s pitching, combining for four hits and six RBIs.

The Ironmen nearly earned a second win, but Marucci Forbes stunned the Ironmen 6-5 after a two-run rally in the bottom of the sixth. Marucci scored the go-ahead run after Halen Miller tagged up from third base on Reid DuBois’ sacrifice fly.

Things went from bad to worse for the Blacksox Elite as they fell to the Chattanooga Mustangs 4-3. Jeremiah Townley was a force to be reckoned with on the rubber. Townley tossed a complete game three-hitter with a pair of punch-outs.

Brett Young and the Adirondack Heat squeaked by the Cincinnati Spikes 3-2 in a seven inning battle on Field 9. Young was a home run shy of the cycle on a flawless 3-3 game from the plate. Jack Cairns quelled the Spikes' comeback bid in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win.

The Heat’s streak ended there as the Columbia Angels brought them back down to earth 5-1. The Angels took control of the game after Brandon Porter’s bases-clearing double in the top of the first.

Kristopher Artis had a banner day in the Norfolk Destroyers’ 5-1 triumph over the Michigan Elite. In addition to pitching a complete game, Artis racked up a game-high two RBIs on a pair of singles.

The East Cobb Braves’ pitchers baffled the Sharks’ offense for seven innings in their team’s 6-1 victory on Field 10. The Sharks’ only hit of the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Kennee Torres and Marc Maestri tallied two runs apiece as the Bronx Bombers’ bounced 9 Stars Baseball 8-1. The Bombers sealed the game with a five-run barrage in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The 643 DP Cougars Montgomery would prove to be a tougher opponent. The Cougars left the Bombers in the dust with a four-run outburst in the top of the fourth. Mitchell Werntz tossed six scoreless innings as the Cougars prevailed 5-0.

The Northwest Bandits Black rallied back from a one-run deficit in the seventh inning to topple the Tennessee Knights 4-2. The Bandits strung together three runs in the seventh inning courtesy of Adam Sullivan’s RBI single and a costly two-run error by the Knights.

Davis Jackson and the Middle Tennessee Outlaws outdueled Team NC Demarini 6-4 on Field 12. Jackson fanned five batters in four scoreless innings on the mound. He contributed on offense as well with a two-run double in the third inning.

The East Cobb Astros and the Georgia Bombers (Hill) were able to emerge as the champions on Sunday at the 2018 PG Super25 13u and 14u Georgia Super Qualifiers.
