EMERSON, Ga. – After a weekend that saw heavy rain fall throughout, the Alabama Patriots came back to beat Georgia Team Combat 7-5 in the Championship game of the inaugural 13u PG Invitational.

The Patriots managed to grab a quick 2-0 lead in the second inning
thanks in part to a pair of bases loaded walks to Cayden Rose and Camden Hill. Georgia answered with two runs in the fourth and fifth inning to take a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth.

Harrison Stewart reached on an error to start the inning and Stuart Edge followed that up with a single to center field. The rally officially started when Logan Morris reached on an error to plate Steward. Wyatt Duthu Singled to right field to score Stuart Edge to tie the game at four.

After a single by Hill and an error that got Dylan Ray to first
the damage was done. The Alabama Patriots went into the top of the seventh up 7-4. Georgia Team Combat knocked on a run in the seventh but that’s all they could manage.

Coach Jamie Hill and his Patriots opened up their travel season at the 2015 13u PG Invitational. Although Proud of his team and happy with their performance, Coach Hill Expects much of the same from his guys.

“This Perfect Game Tournament Championship kick starts a 2015 season that is filled with high expectations,” Hill said after the game.

The bond that holds this team with high expectations together is their familiarity with one another. A majority of the group has been on the same team since 9u. The Patriots have taken home some big-time wins and quality finishes in the bigger youth travel events since they started playing together.
This idea of familiarity and team bonding is something that Hill and his assistant coaches see as a vital part to their success as a team.

“Much of the Patriots success is due to players and families consistently being together at practice, tournaments, and other events as a team,” Hill said. “This Relationship equates to a commitment to the team versus the individual player.”

When Coach Hill says they do a lot as a team he means it. For example, every Patriot that went to the plate recorded at least two hits throughout the five games in Emerson.

With 13 players from a 10 mile radius in north Alabama, familiarity will soon turn to rivalry. The Alabama Patriots will feed into over 5 different high schools within their area. Luckily Coach Hill and the Patriots don’t have to worry about all of that just yet as summer is right around the corner.
