Xavier Avery is a 2008 OF with a 6'0'', 185 lb. frame from Decatur, GA who attends Cedar Grove HS. He has an athletic build with solid overall strength. Avery is the fastest player in the country and that speed was on display in Cincinnati. He ran a 6.17 60, the fastest every recorded at a Perfect Game event, and was 4.02 to first base on a full swing. Avery has game impact speed and the instincts to use it, especially on the bases. Where Avery has improved the most is with the bat. He has a chance to become a Carl Crawford type player with the bat speed and rapidly improving power that he's been showing. Avery has strong/quick hands and had no problem dealing with low 90's fastballs in game situations. You get the impression with Avery that you're just beginning to see what he can do on offense and we've been watching him for three years. Defensively, Avery is also a Crawford type player; he obviously has the speed to cover huge amounts of ground but his arm strength is short and his jumps just fair. Avery is a very highly regarded defensive back on the football field, which is no surprise, but is all baseball player on the baseball field. He should be a very high draft pick in 2008. Selected to 2007 Aflac All-American team.

Xavier Avery is a 2008 OF with a 6'0'', 160 lb. frame from Decatur GA, who attends Cedar Grove HS. He has a live athletic body and should continue to fill out and get stronger. Avery was named to the showcase Top Prospect Team. Avery was the top runner at the showcase, running the 60 in 6.49 and consistently running in the 4.1's down to first base from the left side. His offensive approach fits his tools well. Avery hits from an open stance and has a quick, slashing swing with good bat speed. He uses his hands to hit and stays inside and behind the ball well. Avery flashed some extra base pop and with his speed anything in the alleys could end up as a triple. Avery's hitting skills are still raw and inconsistent but he has a high offensive ceiling. Defensively it's much the same. Avery's raw arm strength is solid and he has the speed to cover the alleys but nees work on his fundamentals and breaks to the ball. Overall, he has plus raw tools and should keep improving. Follow closely.

Xavier Avery is a 2008 OF from Cedar Grove High School in Stockbridge, GA, with a 5'11'', 170 lb. frame. Named to the Top Prospect Team at the event. Avery is a very good athlete with speed and quickness. His sixty time was one of the best at the events, and he uses his speed well on the bases and in the outfield. He has smooth and balanced actions in the outfield, and shows arm strength with a quick release that helps produce strong online carry. Avery's outfield skills are high level and he can play any spot in the outfield. At the plate he has a very quick bat from the left side. He has a quiet set-up with a no load approach, and he makes consistently solid contact with a line drive swing plane. He has good bat control and hand-eye coordination, combined with his speed, that make him an ideal top of the order hitter at the next level. Avery is also a very good student, and is a must follow.
