2015 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Brent McDonald is a 2016 RHP/OF with a 6-1 185 lb. frame from Murrieta, CA who attends Murrieta Valley. Large, athletic build with broad shoulders and present strength throughout well proportioned frame. Ran a 7.39 60-yard dash. Primary right-handed pitcher, tight release through the back with a quick arm action and high three-quarter arm slot. Short and compact delivery, smooth and repeatable mechanics with good direction towards the plate. Occasionally drifts towards plate early but stays on top of fastball and works down in the zone. Topped at 87 mph, shows running life to arm side and occasional natural cut. Curveball shows 11-5 shape with late depth and bite, maintains arm speed well and has tight rotation at 75 mph. Mixes well and keeps heres off balance. Similar arm action from the outfield, fields out front and gets on top of throws, taller at release, shows accuracy to throws. Right-handed hitter, starts with a wide base and a lower hand set. Simple swing and short path to the ball, loads hands high, line drive swing plane with carry off barrel when squared. Gets to front side early at times, shows nice bat speed through zone with consistent feel for barrel. Named to West Coast Top Prospect List. Very good student.
