Andrew Wood is a 2016 LHP/1B with a 6-2 215 lb. frame from Hemphill, TX who attends Hemphill HS. Has a large frame and big strong build with clear sign of present strength. On the mound, high energy pitcher that throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with long arm action. High leg lift in delivery where it slighly slows down at the peak, hands and leg are in sync. Fastball generates some downhill plane and has running life, occasionally cuts when around it. Curveball has slurvy shape with good late bite. Changeup has late fading action. Does a nice job of mixing pitches and pounding the strike zone with all three. From the infield, fields the ball out in front with solid footwork. Showed good arm strength on throws across. At the plate, left-handed hitter that starts with a wide base, high hand set, and high back elbow. Patient hitter at the plate, stays inside the baseball on swing plane. Flashed some raw strength off the barrel. Excellent student. Named to South Uncommitted Top Prospect List.
