Andrew Shaps is a 2014 OF/LHP with a 6-0 160 lb. frame from Paradise Valley, AZ who attends Chaparral HS. Slender young athletic build, lots of room to get stronger. Quality two-way prospect. 7.02 runner, very polished and athletic defensive tools, big arm strength with outstanding accuracy, very clean footwork, got good jumps and showed range. Left handed hitter, open stance, gets coiled, balanced swing, loose and fluid through contact, times the ball well, consistent line drive contact, uses the entire field, bat projects well with additional strength. Simple repeatable delivery on the mound, low 3/4's arm slot, creates angle to the plate, will be tough on left handed hitters. Mid 80's fastball topped at 88 mph, good tailing 2-seam action when down in the zone, big sweeping curveball, throws strikes and has an idea how to pitch. Mechanically polished and athletic in all actions, just waiting for the strength to kick in. Good student, verbal commitment to Arizona State.
