Akili Johnson is a 2018 2B/SS with a 5-10 180 lb. frame from Charleston, WV who attends Capital. Medium frame with a solid, athletic build. Projects for additional strength with continued physical development. Ran a 7.21 sixty yard dash. Primary second baseman, smooth fundamental footwork while ranging to and surrounding the baseball. Clean, two handed glove actions out front while funneling the baseball. Showed solid range to each side with extended range to glove side. High energy release while throwing across the infield from a high three-quarters slot. Topped at 74 mph with accuracy, on line carry to the bag. Right handed hitter with an upright, staight stance and slightly lower hand set. Flashed solid hand quickness while attacking baseball with a compact path. Uphill, leveraged swing plane through extension. Has some strength and bat speed with a mid-field to opposite field approach. Flashed the ability to turn the barrel to baseball and produce loud contact to the plus side gap when attacking out front. Good student.
