Matthew Ortiz is a 2016 2B/SS, MIF with a 5-10 155 lb. frame from Corona, CA who attends Santiago. Medium athletic frame with solid, wiry strength and excellent room for physical projection. Ran a 7.62 60-yard dash. Hits with high hand set, tall stance, and semi-closed off feet/hips. Shows line drive swing plane with inside hand path, exaggerated opposite-field approach with consistent contact and solid bat speed projection. Showed well defensively, charges well with good footwork and athleticism, makes accurate throws across the diamond with developing arm strength. Showed ability to throw from all angles with consistent accuracy and feel for the position overall.
