Nicholas Smelcer is a 2016 C/3B, 1B with a 6-1 155 lb. frame from Morristown, TN who attends Morristown West. Smelcer has a medium sized frame with a thin lean build. Defensively he throws with a long arm action from a lower arm slot. Smelcer starts with a side saddle set up and showed some foot quickness on his pop throws. He showed developing actions on the infield with a long arm action. At the plate, Smelcer starts with a wide base and uses a rock back load to start his swing. He's short to the baseball and has a line drive approach. Smecler has a quiet approach and gets some extension. He took good game swings and kept his hands inside the ball well on an 88 MPH fastball. Smecler has solid hitting tools, outstanding student.
