2015 Caribbean Top Prospect Showcase
Jonathan Ortiz is a 2016 RHP with a 6-0 170 lb. frame from Caguas, PR who attends Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy. Strong, athletic build with broad shoulders and present strength throughout frame. Primary righthanded pitched, steady pace throughout delivery, opens front side early and lands open at release. Full arm swing through the backside and works to an extended three-quarters arm slot, would work from a slightly higher three-quarters slot out of the stretch which allowed for better directionality towards the plate. Fastball touched 88 mph and works comfortably in the 84-87 mph range throughout and showed solid running life to arm side. Slider served as out pitch at 77 mph with good spin and occasional depth from same arm slot. Also flashed a changeup at 74 mph. Named to Caribbean Top Prospect List. Good student.
