Kevin Welsh is a 2016 SS/2B, RHP with a 5-10 165 lb. frame from Columbus, NJ who attends N Burl Co Reg. Medium frame with an athletic build. Projects for additional strength. At the plate shows a straight, balanced stance with a leg kick trigger and high back elbow set. Creates good shift into contact with linear lower half actions. Hands launch on a compact plane producing slight leverage through contact. Primarily uses a line drive approach working from gap to gap. Flashed solid bat speed with pop that can split the gaps. Present barrel control with the ability to hit multiple pitch types to all fields. Worked out defensively from the infield showing a compact three-quarters arm slot with good arm strength, topped at 91 mph across the infield. Throws generated good carry across the infield with consistent accuracy. Athletic, smooth footwork while surrouding the baseball. Also shows soft hands while funneling with clean glove to hand exchanges. Quick first step angles with good range to both sides allowing clean glove actions while on the move. Ran a 6.85 sixty-yard dash. Good student as well. Committed to Rutgers. Named to the 2016 Pre-Draft Showcase Top Prospect List.
