2003 Northeast Top Prospect Showcase
Francona is an "04" LHP/OF with a great future on the hill. At 6'3/160 he has tons of room and projects out of sight. He has very nice solid mechanics and a smooth quick arm. He's not quite there yet, he throws a lot of 81 mph fastballs and then out of nowhere he'll pop one at 86 or 87. That's just the beginning for him because this kid will throw 90 or better down the road. For some reason he throws his curve ball extra slow (low 60s). With his arm action, it seems lower 70s would be easy. He seems to slow down his arm to throw the breaking balls and change up. He appears to be competitive. Bottom line it's all there and he's in very good hands. He also has the bloodlines as his father is Terry Francona. Nick is an outstanding student with a 1350 SAT.
