2015 Top Prospects

Ethan Skender  SS - 2015 - Metamora, IL
Arizona State/State College of Florida

Skender has been a dominant force at WWBA tournaments for the last two years and it was good to see him in a showcase setting, as his raw tools and athleticism really stood out. The bat is going to play at high levels.

Andy Pagnozzi  RHP - 2015 - Fayetteville, AR
Mississippi

Pagnozzi looked like he was in mid-season form, as his delivery was sound and his overall stuff was crisp. He pitched in the 87-89 mph range while touching 90 and showed two different sharp curveballs that he threw for strikes.

Jacob Jaycox  RHP - 2015 - Florissant, MO
Jefferson College

Jaycox is a very strong 6-3 athlete with a quick right arm. He topped out at 89 mph with a slider that was nasty at times. He's got some mechanical adjustments to make but could really take off over the next few years.

2016 Top Prospects

Joey Polak  3B - 2016 - Quincy, IL
Missouri State/Jefferson College

Polak's right handed swing and power is well known nationally and he took an outstanding batting practice here. One new wrinkle in his overall game is that the primary third baseman caught at this event and said that he would be catching this spring in high school.

Ben Rortvedt  C - 2016 - Verona, WI
Arkansas

Rortvedt is a 5-10/185 bundle of energy and quickness on the field with high level tools. He popped 1.81 with 83 mph arm strength behind the plate and notably did a nice job handling pitchers when behind the plate. He also showed lots of bat speed and gap power from the left side.

Peyton Faulkner  OF - 2016 - Caruthersville, MO
Southeast Missouri State/Jefferson CC

Faulkner is a tightly wound athlete with speed and strength. He ran the event's fastest forty at 4.69 (he had run a 6.69 sixty in early January in Florida), was solid both in the infield and outfield defensively and showed plenty of left handed bat speed.

Alec Trela  SS - 2016 - Bloomington, IL
Memphis

Trela stood out at the PG National Underclass Main Event in Florida in late December and continued that performance in St. Louis. He's big and strong at 6-3/205 and has a smooth right handed swing that produces lots of bat speed and power.

John Hurayt III  OF - 2016 - St. Charles, MO
Uncommitted

Hurayt is a primary outfielder with good running speed and some pop in his bat but he graded out much better as a pitcher at this event. He sat at 87-89 mph from a sound delivery and lived at the bottom of the strike zone with heavy life.

Jordan McFarland  IF - 2016 - Waterloo, IL
Arkansas

"Big Country" McFarland is simply one strong young man at 6-4/225 and the ball explodes off the bat when he squares it up. He hit one ball to right centerfield that got the net pretty much immediately. McFarland also runs surprising well for his size, as his 4.84 forty was the fifth fastest of the event.

Drew Millas  C - 2016 - Swansea, IL
Missouri State

Millas is an unusually good all around athlete for a primary catcher and looked as if he could stand out as an infielder based on his drills and speed. He should keep improving as he adds strength to his 6-2/170 frame.

Camden Bauer  SS - 2016 - O'Fallon, IL
Alabama

Bauer has a very nice angular 6-3/185 build for a middle infielder and moves very well on defense while staying low to the ground. He has right handed bat speed that will improve with some mechanical adjustments.

Nick Neville  SS - 2016 - Fairfax, VA
South Carolina/San Jacinto CC

Neville is a quick twitch athlete with very good speed and lots of arm strength, including a 91 mph time from the outfield. Although a primary outfielder, Neville graded out just as well in infield drills and could have a future there.

Isaac Olson  RHP - 2016 - Glendale, MO
University of Cincinnati

Olson didn't quite have the raw stuff he showed in Cedar Rapids two weeks ago but in February that's not a worry. He did show his outstanding curveball well and his 6-6/197 frame and easy delivery defines projection.

Braydon Cook  RHP - 2016 - O'Fallon, MO
Murray State

Cook pounded the bottom of the strike zone with an 84-87 mph fastball and showed two quality off speed pitches in a deep 77 mph slider and a sinking upper 70's changeup.

Collin Clayton  OF - 2016 - McCook, IL
Missouri State/John A. Logan College

Clayton is a nice all around athlete who showed well in all aspects of the showcase, including playing both outfield and infield. He has plenty of present bat speed and will gain more as he fills out his 6-1/165 frame.

Luke Bandy  SS - 2016 - Bentonville, AR
Dallas Baptist

Bandy has a loose and projectable middle infielder's build and was solid both defensively and offensively. The PG staff was intrigued by what he'd look like on the mound, as he had a very effortless and easy arm action and release on defense.

Matt Westphal  C - 2016 - St Charles, MO
Uncommitted

Westphal looks the part of the catcher with a strong 6-2/192 build. He has athletic actions behind the plate to go with strong fundamentals and arm strength. He looked especially solid receiving during the games.

John Brinkman  3B - 2016 - Worden, IL
Uncommitted

Brinkman showed solid two-way prospect ability as a 3B/RHP. He's very strong at 5-11/195 but showed agility and quickness on defense and the strength gave him plenty of raw bat speed. On the mound he threw a heavy 84-86 mph fastball and a mid-70's slider.

Nate Witherspoon  LHP - 2016 - Eureka, MO
Missouri State

Witherspoon has a loose and athletic 6-4/180 build and you could see his overall athleteicism during drills before he took the mound. He was 81-83 mph with his fastball with plenty more in there as he gets stronger. He also threw probably the best changeup of any pitcher at the event.

Robbie Suhr  RHP - 2016 - Lees Summit, MO
Oklahoma Christian

Suhr is a projectable 6-0/170 with good overall athletic actions. He sat at 84-85 mph from a simple downhill delivery and showed good quality to his slider and change up at times. He's going to keep getting better.

Joe Wallace  C - 2016 - Glen Carbon, IL
Lincoln Trail College

Wallace was very athletic behind the plate with quickness in his shifting and in his release. He also showed the same type of quickness from the right side with the bat.

Cole Dunham  OF - 2016 - Lee's Summit, MO
Drury University

Dunham is a solid all around athlete who looked equally comfortable both in the outfield and in the infield defensively. He had present bat speed from the right side with an aggressive approach that produced gap power.

2017 Top Prospects

Joe Boyle  RHP - 2017 - Goshen, KY
Notre Dame

Boyle has an outstanding young pitcher's build at 6-5/200 and a strong right arm to to with it. He topped out at 88 mph with a compact, quick arm action that powers the ball downhill. His curveball showed promising signs as a second pitch.

Craig Theiss  RHP - 2017 - DeSoto, MO
Uncommitted

Theiss got the PG staff's attention when the 6-6 right hander threw 90 mph in outfield drills with a silky smooth arm action. He topped out at 86 from the mound and once he calmed down his delivery really powered the ball downhill well. He's a high ceiling talent.

Zach Gibbs  RHP - 2017 - Wentzville, MO
Missouri State

Gibbs is a high quality athlete who could end up being a top prospect as an infielder, catcher or right handed pitcher, although catcher is his primary position. He has a combination of quickness and strength as a position player that will enable him to keep improving for years. On the mound, Gibbs topped out at 84 mph but his curveball was one of the best breaking balls of the day.

DJ Stewart  SS - 2017 - St. Louis, MO
Eastern Illinois

Stewart is a very interesting young athlete. He drove some balls very hard up the right centerfield gap against good pitchers and also looked very comfortable at shortstop.

Walker Jenkins  SS - 2017 - Old Monroe, MO
Uncommitted

Jenkins shows the quickness, athleticism and arm strength you want to see in a young middle infielder. He'll keep improving as he gets stronger and has more repetitions.
