2014 Top Prospects

Nicholas Gordon  SS - 2014 - Windermere, FL
Florida State

Gordon has finally started to fill out his slender frame and was noticeably stronger across his shoulders and back than the last time we saw him. That made a big difference in the way the ball carried off his bat when he squared it up. He may be the top high school prospect in the country.

Alexis Pantojas  SS - 2014 - Vega Alta, PR
Alabama State

Pantojas will likely enter the spring as the top Puerto Rican prospect in the minds of most scouts. He has elite level defensive tools and speed and his slashing left handed swing keeps producing hard line drives as he gets stronger.

Milton Ramos  SS - 2014 - Hiealea, FL
Florida Atlantic

Scouts bore down on Ramos hard all weekend after his strong late summer and fall performances. He ranks with Nicholas Gordon as a pure defender all over the infield but is still waiting for that bit of extra mature muscle to develop to take the next step as a hitter.

Isan Diaz  SS - 2014 - Springfield, MA
Vanderbilt

Diaz stood out with the bat as he almost does at national level events. He looked stronger and the ball really jumped off his bat both in batting practice and during the games.

Devon Fisher  C - 2014 - Portsmouth, VA
Virginia

Fisher has a strong, mature build and the advanced skills to survive as a catcher in professional baseball, something few high school catchers are able to do. He added a bit to his overall package should he attend Virginia, however, when he topped out at 91 mph with huge life on the mound from a very deceptive tight sidearm release point.

Tristan Rojas  OF - 2014 - Bronx, NY
Grayson County College

Rojas has established a national reputation as a quick twitch athlete with plus speed and the barrel skills to be a high average hitter. He added another page to his resume during batting practice, hitting the most memorable blow of the the drill by driving a ball off the Mack Field backstop deep beyond the left field fence.

Jared McKay  OF - 2014 - Stone Mountain, GA
New Orleans/Spartanburg Methodist College

McKay is going to be moving up the National rankings and he's going to start getting some professional scouting attention. He has the strength to create lots of bat speed at the plate and his speed (6.42) and arm strength are definite pro level tools.

Ronald Williams  RHP - 2014 - Miami, FL
Florida A&M/Palm Beach State

Williams is a plus raw athlete who ran 6.7 and threw 94 mph from the outfield. The ball left his hand very easily on the mound and he was consistently in the 89-92 mph range for 3 innings, with a solid change up/curveball combination.

Todd Isaacs Jr  OF - 2014 - Delray Beach, FL
Palm Beach State

Isaacs' speed stood out in Jupiter but he'd never run a sixty at a PG event until the World Showcase. His 6.34 run put an exclamation mark on his speed, that's for sure. Isaacs has a nice right handed swing that is under control and produces plenty of gap to gap line drives.

Keegan McGovern  OF - 2014 - Willacoochee, GA
Georgia

McGovern's left handed power swing was very impressive. He has the ability to hit the ball deep in the zone and pull and lift the ball with authority and strength. McGovern is also a 6.8 runner despite a strong 6-3/195 build and has a strong throwing arm.

Aidan McDermott  OF - 2014 - South Plainfield, NJ
St. John's

This was McDermott's first PG showcase after numerous WWBA/BCS tournaments and he was very impressive with the bat. He generates tons of bat speed from his 6-3/200 build and has the ability to drive the ball out of the park to all fields. He'll get plenty of professional scouting attention back up in New Jersey this spring.

Nelson Jorge Pagan  SS - 2014 - Patillas, PR
DMACC

Jorge was one of the top prospects at the Caribbean Showcase and continued to show his all around tools in Fort Myers. He's a legitimate switch-hitter with especially good bat speed and surprising gap power from the left side. Jorge's best position is likely second base but he can play all over the field.

Roberto Gonzalez  OF - 2014 - Orlando, FL
Miami-Dade College

Gonzalez is a very toolsy athlete with an outstanding combination of speed, arm strength and left handed power/bat speed. How he develops his overall skill set to use those tools in games will determine how high he's drafted.

Trevor (Tj) Martin  C - 2014 - Overland Park, KS
Kansas

Martin has lots of tools on both sides of the ball and really showed them well in game competition. He threw out multiple runners trying to steal with accurate, strong throws and swung the bat with authority.

Roy Morales Rivera  C - 2014 - Lares, PR
La Salle

Morales impresses with his power potential and raw bat speed at every event he attends. His catching actions are still long but his fundamentals continue to improve after just converting to the position within the last year. Scouts still talk about seeing him more on the mound.

Spencer Levine  C - 2014 - Miami, FL
Florida Gulf Coast/Seminole State College of Florida

Levine is a versatile and talented athlete who can play multiple positions on defense, although his highest ceiling is as a catcher. His strength really stood out at the plate as he consistently overpowered the ball from the right side of the plate.

Ruben Garcia  SS - 2014 - Port St. Lucie, FL
Alabama State

Garcia is listed as a 6-4/200 primary shortstop but his future might be on the mound. He pitched in the 87-89 mph range with an outstanding change up and promising curveball and really projects well.

Kevin Rivera  SS - 2014 - Barceloneta, PR
Broward CC

Rivera doesn't do anything flashy or loud on the field but simply does everything very well. He ran a 6.8 sixty, plays shortstop with skill and very good arm strength and hits the ball hard from both sides of the plate.

Derek (DJ) King  MIF - 2014 - Fort Meade, FL

King is a very athletic 6-2/190 middle infielder with a nice collection of tools/skills and plenty of projection. He hit the ball very well in both games and in batting practice, ran a 7.0 while showing solid arm strength and was even mid-80's with a hard breaking curveball off the mound.

Dash Winningham  1B - 2014 - Ocala, FL
Florida Gulf Coast

There have been a number of big left handed hitting high school first baseman drafted recently and there were pro scouts buzzing about Winningham's bat this weekend. Once scout compared him to the Cardinals Matt Adams.

Brandon Vicens  OF - 2014 - Miami Lakes, FL
Maine

Vicens has a very strong 6-0/190 build and some of the best right handed bat speed at the event. He has a fundamentally sound swing and enough lift to develop some home run power in the future. His 90 mph arm strength gives him the tools for right field.

Nathan Rodriguez  C - 2014 - Yorba Linda, CA
Arkansas

Rodriguez is coming off a bad ACL injury and came all the way from California to show he'd recovered and we're glad he did. He's a very athletic catcher who plays with energy and has a strong right handed swing.

Michael Arroyo  C - 2014 - Ponce, PR
Uncommitted

Arroyo is very athletic for a catcher, with sub-7.0 speed and the ability to play multiple positions in the field. He shows gap to gap power at the plate from a sound fundamental swing.

Kevin Williams  OF - 2014 - Kendall, FL
Kansas State/Miami-Dade College

Williams has two tools that stand out in his 6.5 speed and his ability to consistently square the ball up hard from the right side of the plate. He's an aggressive baserunner with instincts and should be a top flight leadoff type at the next level.

Robert White  RHP - 2014 - Chesapeake, VA
William & Mary

White has the prototypical 6-4/195 projectable right handed pitcher's build and a fastball that was consistently in the 87-89 mph range. His curveball flashed big potential in the mid-70's as well.

Khevin Brewer  OF - 2014 - Richmond, TX
Rice

Brewer looks like he's made some nice swing adjustments since we saw him last to simplify and shorten his approach and to handle top level pitching better. No one has every questioned his strength and bat speed.

Luis Alvarado  SS - 2014 - Salinas, PR
Nebraska

Alvarado missed the Caribbean Showcase after accidently getting hit in the face by a teammate's practice swing, but showed he was fully recovered. He still needs to add strength to his 6-5/185 frame but his 6.8 speed and huge arm strength attest to his physical tools.

Marco Rivera  OF - 2014 - Vega Alta, PR

Rivera is a quick twitch tool monster who ran a 6.6 sixty and threw 95 mph from the outfield. He has the raw bat speed to be a high level hitter but will have to continue working on shortening up his big swing.

Duke Stunkel, Jr.  OF - 2014 - Palm Beach Gardens, FL
South Florida

Stunkel has intrigued the PG scouting staff for a long time with his smooth and powerful left handed swing and overall power potential. He hit the ball very well in Fort Myers.

Nick Wojtysiak  LHP - 2014 - Scottsdale, AZ
Pepperdine

Wojtysiak has gone from topping out at 82 in May to 86 in mid-summer to reaching 89 mph in Fort Myers. His best pitch, though, is his hard bring 77 mph curveball that is going to over match left handed hitters at the next level.

Octavio Lara Jr  RHP - 2014 - Bellflower, CA
Cal State Dominguez Hills/Central Arizona CC

Lara is a big bodied right hander who will have to work hard to keep his body under control but he was one of the most dominant pitchers at the showcase. He pounded the strike zone with a three-pitch mix that included an 87-90 mph fastball, a potential plus change up and a pretty good curveball. Hitters didn't have much of a chance.

Bruce Steel  SS - 2014 - Jupiter, FL
Wake Forest

Steel is a very good hitter who always seems to hit the ball hard somewhere. When he fills out his 6-2/175 build those line drives are going to increasingly find alleys and fences. He looks like a future second baseman on defense.

Tyler Hasper  RHP - 2014 - Naperville, IL
Middle Tennessee State/Heartland CC

Hasper has a strong 6-1/205 build and a reliever's mentality on the mound but has starter's collection of pitches. He pitched in the 87-89 mph range with very good life but threw a hard curveball with tight spin and showed feel for his change up as well.

Evan Mendoza  RHP - 2014 - Sarasota, FL
North Carolina State

Mendoza is a very polished strong bodied right hander who sat easily at 88-90 mph for 3 innings with a well commanded 75 mph curveball and a nice upper 70's change up. He has a couple of delivery adjustments to make but has no problem throwing strikes with all three pitches.

Dane Myers  3B - 2014 - Katy, TX
Rice

Myers is listed as a primary shortstop but graded out much higher as a pitcher at the showcase. He pitched steadily in the 87-89 mph range with outstanding life from a low effort, athletic delivery. Myers change up was a potential plus pitch with the same type of big life to it.

Jon Rosoff  SS - 2014 - Durham, NC
Army

Rosoff is a particular favorite of the PG staff, as he's a plus makeup/high energy player who can literally play every position on the field with skill and also switch-hits. Notably, he does not have a college commitment despite top level grades to go with his baseball skills.

Joshua Terry  OF - 2014 - Bronx, NY

Terry is another athlete whose long term future might be on the mound instead of playing a position. He's a 6-3/190 outfielder with 7.0 speed and a strong outfield arm but was consistently in the upper 80's off the mound, topping out at 89.

Michael Mediavilla  LHP - 2014 - Hialeah, FL
Miami

Mediavilla didn't show the low 90's fastball like he showed at Jupiter in late October but was in the 86-88 mph range with a big breaking curveball from the left side. He looked like he was in very good physical shape and ready for a strong spring.

Stuart Fairchild  OF - 2014 - Seattle, WA
Wake Forest

Fairchild traveled all the way from Seattle, Washington to Fort Myers and had himself a very solid event. He ran a 6.9, showed good outfield arm strength and really swung the bat well from the right side of the plate.

Kevin Lara  RHP - 2014 - Caguas, PR
Alabama State

Lara threw much better than he did at the Caribbean Showcase in November, showing an improved delivery and a better breaking ball. He is very projectable, with a young 6-3/180 build and a loose arm that produces a consistent upper 80's fastball from a severe downhill angle.

Alex Aristy  OF - 2014 - Loxahatchee, FL

Aristy looks like he's got stronger in the last couple of months and it showed with good bat speed and hard contact when he got his arms extended. His run (6.8) and throw (89 mph) tools are very good.

Fernando Garcia  OF - 2014 - Jacksonville, FL

Garcia is an extremely toolsy 6-2/195 outfielder with outstanding speed (6.55) and a strong outfield throwing arm. He has the strength to generate bat speed and power but will have to shorten his swing before he can make consistent hard contact against quality pitching.

Jose Antonio Rodriguez  SS - 2014 - Naguabo, PR

Rodriguez and fellow countryman Kevin Rivera are very similar players, with polished games and solid overall tool sets. We've seen Rodriguez swing the bat better at a number of past events and are confident he will do so again.

Nicholas Padilla  RHP - 2014 - Bronx, NY
Grayson County College

Padilla is a big bodied right hander from the Bronx with a strong right arm. He pitched in the upper 80's and touched 91 mph with one pitch early while showing a big sweeping curveball.

2015 Top Prospects

Nicholas Shumpert  SS - 2015 - Lone Tree, CO
San Jacinto CC

Shumpert gave up playing basketball this winter and is now a full-time baseball player. His extra work showed almost every trip to the plate, as he has a shorter, simpler swing to go with his easy plus bat speed.

Juan Hillman  LHP - 2015 - Haines City, FL
University of Central Florida

Hillman dominated during his 3 innings, sitting at 87-89 mph from an outstanding downhill angle and throwing to corners like a big leaguer. His curveball and change up flashed plus potential as well. He's a high ceiling talent.

Michael Rivera  RHP - 2015 - Trujillo Alto, PR
Alabama State

Rivera took a big step forward from the Caribbean Showcase two months ago, bumping his top fastball up from an already impressive 90 mph to a high of 93 mph in Fort Myers, along with showing a tighter breaking ball. He may be the top prospect in the 2015 Puerto Rican class.

Keshawn Lynch  SS - 2015 - Lake Hamilton, FL
University of Central Florida

Lynch played on the same team with 2014 defensive standouts Nicholas Gordon and Wilson Ramos and stole much of the attention in game action, making a number of outstanding defensive plays at both second and third base. He's going to keep rising up the prospect lists.

Leo Rodriguez  C - 2015 - Mount Dora, FL
Palm Beach State

Rodriguez topped out at 92 mph last weekend at the National Underclass Main Event and was up to 90 at the World. He's a big, strong kid with athleticism and more growing to do.

Tyrone Perry  1B - 2015 - Avon Park, FL
Florida State

Perry is in the middle of basketball season but still came out to compete. He has a surprisingly short swing for a big power hitting left hander and the strength to drive the ball out of the park to all fields.

Juan Javier Echevarria  RHP - 2015 - Kissimmee, FL
Alabama State

Echevarria showed his big power potential especially well against live pitching and really drove the ball hard from the right side. He profiles as a third baseman at the next level and also threw up to 86 mph off the mound.

Sixto Torres  LHP - 2015 - Orlando, FL
Alabama State

Torres has a very nice pitcher's build at 6-5/205 and projects to get bigger and stronger. He topped out at 88 mph with a nice collection of off speed pitches, including a 74 mph curveball, a 77 mph change up and a 83 mph cutter.
