PG Vs. Cancer fundraising under way

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. - After months of planning with the help of those with the Vs. Cancer Foundation, PG Vs. Cancer has come to life. The Perfect Game Super25 series has launched its fundraising efforts in the partnership with Vs. Cancer to give every participating Super25 team from every age group the chance to raise money in the fight against childhood cancer.

Former University of North Carolina outfielder Chase Jones, the founder of Vs. Cancer, and Perfect Game Super25 National Director Drake Browne have been working together to incorporate Vs. Cancer into the brand new Perfect Game tournament series.

Jones, who was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer in 2006, founded Vs. Cancer when his cancer went into remission. He is very excited to be teaming up with Perfect Game and its participating tournament teams.

"The idea that a baseball team could rally around helping out children with cancer blew up to the point that we were trying to give every athlete that we worked with a platform to help out other kids," Jones said. "Perfect Game is an unbelievable organization believing that the game of baseball can be much bigger than just a sport and can act as an avenue to help out the next child."

"PG Vs. Cancer gives every team a chance to make a difference this summer," added Browne, who has set his personal fundraising goal at $15,000. With around 5,000 invite requests for Super25 tournaments, the partnership has the potential to raise a lot of money for Vs. Cancer. PG Super25's goal is set at $50,000.

Vs. Cancer donates half of the money raised towards cancer research at the national level, while donating the other half directly to the local children's hospitals. In this case, the hospitals in the Perfect Game Super25 National Championship host locations will receive donations. Those cities are Nashville, Charleston, Phoenix, Dallas, and Fort Myers.

"We're funding game-changing research -- new ways for treatments, new chemo therapies, new radiations -- the other part of the money goes back to local children's hospitals to help kids directly in the place where they get that treatment," said Jones.

"Essentially, we are helping both the children of tomorrow and the child of today, by investing in life-saving research nationally and providing support to our children's hospitals in our communities," read the Vs. Cancer website, explaining the Half and Half Model.

For the first ten teams that raise $1,000, Perfect Game will match it and donate $1,000 to their fundraising pages.

Browne and Will Owens, Assistant Director of the Super25, will be in McKinney, Texas with additional Perfect Game staff for the 13u National Championship to shave their heads for the Vs. Cancer Foundation.

For the amount of time it takes to play one inning of baseball, five kids are diagnosed with cancer worldwide. Chase Jones pledged to continue the battle against cancer until cancer is no more. Jones has Perfect Game's support and is very excited at the amazing things that will be accomplished through the partnership.
