Unlike most of the top prospects in this year's draft  class, Matt Imhof wasn't a big name college recruit coming out of high school, much less a nationally known draft prospect. Three years later and it's a very different story, as Imhof has emerged as one of the top pitchers in college baseball this year and has gained a lot of national attention as he leads an upstart Cal Poly team towards potentially hosting an NCAA Tournament Regional for the first time in school history.

He opened his freshman campaign in the weekend rotation, but was sent to the bullpen after three weeks and would spend the rest of the season working in middle relief save for one spot start
. After his freshman season Imhof posted a 6.60 ERA in the West Coast College League and wasn't on the radar with many scouts at the time. But he reportedly began to focus on reshaping his body, getting on a nutrition and training plan, losing 25 pounds between his freshman and sophomore seasons at Cal Poly and made significant developmental strides. He won the Saturday spot in Cal Poly's weekend rotation in 2013 and never looked back, taking a no-hitter into the 6th inning in the NCAA tournament against eventual National Champion UCLA after racking up a 7-3 record and 2.74 ERA. By the end of his sophomore year Imhof's name had circulated throughout the scouting community and he was a well known name as he joined the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team over the summer.
