Sometimes being forced into action pays dividends.

'That's precisely what has happened with the Georgia Tech pitching staff over the past few weeks, and it has resulted to back-to-back Atlantic Coast Conference series wins over Miami and North Carolina after beginning league play with a tough -- in more ways than one -- series loss to Wake Forest.

Going into that series against the Demon Deacons, the Yellow Jackets had a good weekend rotation on paper. Jonathan King and Cole Pitts were quality and experienced arms, giving coach Danny Hall something potentially special to work with. However, Pitts hasn't pitched since that series and is out the rest of the spring after having Tommy John surgery, while King has a shoulder situation, not deemed too serious, and will be reevaluated next week.

Besides those setbacks, that's not the end of the story for the Georgia Tech pitching staff. DeAndre Smelter decided a few weeks ago to concentrate solely on football, while talented pitcher Alex Cruz is gone the rest of the season after being suspended for a violation of team rules.

The Yellow Jackets have had almost everything go against them, but with a team deemed as a rebuilding operation, Hall's club is finding plenty of ways to prosper here as of late.
