Ohio Valley All-Tournament Teams

Perfect Game is proud to have Rick Bale as the Ohio Valley Regional Director for the PG Super25 tournament series.  After two weekends of tournaments, Rick put together All-Tournament Teams and scout notes on the top performers from the Ohio Valley Qualifiers.

Here is what Rick had to say about the first ever PG Super25 tournaments in the Ohio Valley:

The first ever PGSuper25 event in the Ohio Valley was small, but really fun to watch with a lot of talented players.  Here is the 15u All-Tournament Team:

Pitcher - Marshall Nielson (KBC)

Pitcher - Devon Valentino (Cincy Flames)

Pitcher - Trip Lockhart (KBC)

Pitcher - Bass Cooper (EC Stars)

Catcher - Tate Meade (KBC)

1st Baseman- Tyler Grigalis (KBC)

In the second weekend of Ohio Valley action, a lot of great players stood out despite the rain shortened weekend.  Competitive teams played in both the 16u and 17u divisions, with the Ohio Surge and Ironmen Baseball Club coming out on top.  Here are some of the players that made an impression during the Qualifier:

16U All-Tournament Team

Noah West- Ohio Surge 16U/Westerville Central High School 2016. 5’10, 150lbs, Shortstop.  Outstanding defensive player, hits for power and average.  D1 speed.  Noah had an outstanding weekend.  4 base hits, a triple and 3 stolen bases.  Very instinctive ball player.

Brent Todys- Ohio Surge 16U/Westerville North High School 2016.  5’9, 165lbs.  Catcher. Outstanding catcher with very strong arm and 1.9 pop. Hits for average and power.  Brent had an outstanding weekend 5 base hits and threw out 3 of 4 base runners.

Jack Griffith- Ohio Surge 16U/Bloom Carroll High School 2016.  5’9, 145lbs.  2B/Shortstop.  Outstanding middle infielder and contact hitter with quick hands and release.  Jack had an outstanding weekend with 4 base hits and 5 RBIs and played great defense.

Andrew Woods- Ohio Surge 16U/Adena High School 2016.  5’10, 160lbs.  RHP/OF.  Outstanding RHP.  Fastball sits at 80.  Consistently throws slider and curve for strike.  Developing a running 2 seamer and effective change up.  Andrew was outstanding with 4 base hits and a complete game 10 strikeout performance.  On top of his physical skills, he is a gamer.

Nick Moser- Ohio Surge 16U/Big Walnut High School 2016.  5’9, 145lbs.  CF.  One of the top centerfielders in his class in the state of Ohio.  Known as the “Billy Hamilton” of travel ball.  Throws right, hits left.  If he gets on first, he is usually on third in 5-6 pitches.  Nick had an outstanding weekend playing great defense with 4 base hits and 3 walks, scoring 7 runs and stealing 8 bases in 3 games.

Jacob Abbott- KBC 16U/Lafayette High School 2016.  6’1, 165lbs.  Shortstop.  7IP, 4 hits, 1 run.  2-1 victory vs. Ironmen.  Played an impressive SS in 6-1 loss vs. Vipers.  Jacob has quick actions in all aspects of the game.  Showed good pop at the plate as well.

Aiden Elias- KBC 16U/Sayre School 2016.  6’1, 170lbs.  5IP, 3 hits, 1 run.  9-6 victory vs. Ohio Surge.  Aiden came in to slam the door after the Surge scored 5 in the first 2 innings.  Played solidly in the OF as well, tracking down many would be gappers.  Very aggressive on the base paths.

CJ Bush- KBC 16U/Lexington Catholic High School 2016.  6’0, 225lbs.  Showed lots of power at the plate collecting 3 doubles and adding 4 additional quality AB’s.  Very nimble around the bag and showed surprising speed on the bases as well.

Cameron Masterman- Vipers Baseball Club (Elite 16U)/North Oldham High School 2017.  6’2, 175lbs.  Batted .500 for the tournament while gathering 2 doubles, 1 triple and 2 RBI’s.  He also contributed 2 shutout innings on the mound.

Tyler Fitch- Vipers Baseball Club (Elite 16U)/South Oldham High School 2015. 5’10, 180lbs.  Fitch was 6 for 8 (.750) at the plate including 1 double.

Michael Higgins- Vipers Baseball Club (Elite 16U)/South Oldham High School 2016.  6’0, 150lbs.  Higgins pitched a gem of a semi-final allowing only 2 hits and 1 earned run.

Blake Bisig- Vipers Baseball Club (Elite 16U)/South Oldham High School 2015.  5’7, 140lbs.  Bisig demonstrated great range in the OF as well as a tremendously accurate arm throwing out 1 base runner at the plate from CF and stopped a second runner in his tracks with a line drive strike to home plate from deep CF. 

Lane Miller- Ironmen 2016/Booneville High School 2017.  6’3, 180lbs.  High 70’s fastball, can pop low 80’s on occasion.  Fastball has good movement and mixes in a curve and cutter.  6 innings pitched, 3 K’s, 1BB, 1 run and gave up 1 hit.

Riley Willbur- Ironmen 2016/Trinity High School 2016.  5’9, 170lbs.  Athletic catcher/OF.  Has some pop at the plate and speed on the bases.  Good baseball IQ.  4-9 with a double, triple and 2 stolen bases.

Austin Dickey- Ironmen 2016/Providence High School 2016.  6’4, 180lbs.  Low 80’s fastball.  Challenges hitters with good control.  Mixes in a good curve and changeup.  6 innings pitched.  7 K’s, 0 runs.

17U All-Tournament Team

Michael Hall- Elite Baseball Club/Bryan Station High School 2014.  7 innings pitched, 12 K’s, 1 earned run all weekend.

Chance Madden- Elite Baseball Club/Lafayette High School 2015.  5 innings pitched, 8 K’s, 1 earned run.

Jacob Frazier- Elite Baseball Club/Madison Central 2015.  12 putouts defensively.  Frazier was the best on the field this weekend.  No errors.  2-6 offensively at the plate.

Nick Kavanaugh- Elite Baseball Club-Shapiro/Madison Central 2015.  6’0, 160lbs. Very talented athlete, runs extremely well.  Can play any position on the field (primarily infield.)  Fast hands at the plate, makes a lot of contact and hits for average while showing some power to the gaps.  4-10 this weekend, pitched 7 innings giving up 4 hits and 1 run.

Blake Urbanek- Elite Baseball Club-Shapiro/Henry Clay 2015.  6’3, 155lbs. Tall, athletic outfielder who can hit or power to all fields. Tracks down fly balls well, gets behind the baseball and has a strong arm.  3-9, 2 RBI’s, 2 runs scored.

Nathan Fiebes- Elite Baseball Club-Shapiro/Brian Station 2015.  5’7, 145lbs. Smooth infielder who makes routine plays.  Can also pitch, attacks the lower part of the strike zone while displaying several off speed pitches that are effective when thrown for strikes.  Makes a lot of contact, hits for average, rarely strikes out.  Excellent bunter.  3-8, pitched 2 scoreless innings.

Jack Bergren- Illinois Blaze/Lane Tech High School 2015. 6’4, 180lbs.  Pitched strong six innings in the first game to get the win.  Played right field and hand and assist and plenty of other strong throws. 

Casey Dodge- Illinois Blaze/Barrington High School 2015.  6’0, 180lbs.  Went 4-8 at the plate with 2 doubles and 2 BB.  Solid behind the plate and also at 3B.

Anthony De Laurentis- Illinois Blaze/ Barrington High School 2015.  5’10, 170lbs.  Pitched six innings in the second game to get the win.  Had to key hits in two games driving in runs.

Ben Samborn- Illinois Blaze/Glenbrook South High School 2015.  5’10, 170lbs. Ben had key hits all weekend.

Chris Jordan- Huntington Hounds/Ripley High School 2016.  5’9, 160lbs.  Chris is a good runner, has an advanced bat for his age, good range in MIF.  Went 6-11 and played solid defense, 3 extra base hits.

Trey Dawson- Huntington Hounds/Hurricane High School 2015.  6’1, 175lbs.  SS with good feet and hands, good runner with high baseball IQ.  Trey went 4-10 on the weekend with 3 RBI’s, a solo HR and 2 extra base hits.

Blake Lester- Huntington Hounds/Chesapeake High School 2015.  6’1, 170lbs.  Blake really pounds the zone with 3 pitches and makes opponents swing the bat.  Has a good tight spin on breaking ball with late bite.  Blake pitched 6

Ethan Maxey- KBC 17U/North Laurel High School 2015. 5’10, 175lbs.  Stocky and very athletic catcher.  Caught 3 games on the weekend, handled the pitching staff well all 3 games only allowing 1 earned run in 15 innings of work.  Went 3-10 on the weekend with 2 RBI’s.  Picked off a runner at second in the first round of the tournament.

Daniel Neal- KBC 17U/South Laurel High School 2015. 6’2, 195lbs.  Highly recruited INF/OF.  Wide shouldered, very athletic player.  Hit in the middle of the lineup all weekend going 4-10 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI’s.  Also threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings with 2 K’s and make a run saving diving catch in RF.

Logan Mallory- KBC 17U/North Laurel High School 2015.  6’2. RHP, with a tall, athletic frame, throws from a high ¾ arm slot.  FB 83-85, SL 74/-76. Pitch 3 2/3 inning on the weekend (1 win, 0 earned runs, 4 K’s, 1BB) Came in for Daniel Neal in game one due to injury and pitched out of a 2 on, 1 out situation.  Started the first game of tourney play on Sunday and threw 2 innings.  2 K’s, 0 earned runs before the game was shortened due to rain.

Alex Ralph- Ironmen 2015/Bullit East High School 2014.  6’2, 200lbs.  3rd baseman and starting pitcher.  High baseball IQ.  Gap to Gap hitter.  Solid baseball foundation, above average mechanics pure gamer ability.  Alex let the Ironmen to a tournament win both with the bat and arm.  He batted .444 and scored 2 runs.  Pitched a shutout in game 3 allowing only 4 hits with 11 K’s.  Alex leads his teammates both on and off the field.

Ethan Cleary- Ironmen 2015/North Oldham High School 2015. 5’9, 145lbs.  Pitcher and outfielder.  Has a power arm with two other out pitches.  Speedy and chaotic on the field, above average defense, confidence in his abilities and his teammates.  Ethan earned a save in game 1 and a win in game 2.  Hit pitched a total of 7.1 innings allowing only 3 hits while striking out 11.

Jonathan Embry- Ironmen 2015/Christian Academy of Louisville 2015.  5’10, 170lbs.  Catcher and IF.  This past weekend Jonathan led the Ironmen to 3 victories.  Led his team in average (.500) with 4 hits and an RBI.  John was a part of the team battery that pitcher 21 total innings and allowed 1 earned run, accumulating 30 K’s.  John has the ability to be a top catcher at the next level with above average fundamentals, pitchers and catchers IQ, experience and never quit mentality.
