Stanek, Nola, put on expected show

Kendall Rogers

HOOVER, Ala. -- Well before Arkansas right-handed pitcher Ryne Stanek and LSU right-handed pitcher Aaron Nola took the mound Thursday night at the SEC tournament, the mere thought of the two battling it out created a noticeable buzz.

Well, thanks to Wednesday's results, everyone in Hoover got exactly what they were looking for in Stanek and Nola dueling it out. And to no surprise, absolutely no one went home disappointed in a contest that ended with a huge 4-1 Arkansas win, allowing the Razorbacks to get a day of rest here in Hoover.

"I think Ryne Stanek is about ready for the big leagues. I'm tired of seeing him pitch against us," LSU head coach Paul Mainieri said. "He's really good. He was throwing a lot of off speed pitches when he was behind in the count, and I really thought he would challenge us a bit more. He was really good. He was the story of the game."
