"All those teams have incredibly strong and deep pitching staffs," he says. "That's a big key in this league."
The Rebels certainly have had their fair share of elite pitchers over the past few seasons, Drew Pomeranz and reliever Scott Bittle, to name just a couple. But as Ole Miss progressed last season with elite starting pitchers Bobby Wahl and Mike Mayers leading the charge, there was one major dilemma that always seemed to confront Lafferty and head coach Mike Bianco -- the Rebels didn't have a consistent No. 3 starting pitcher.
Though Ole Miss finished last season in the College Station Regional title game, it ended the campaign without a true No. 3 starter, the situation so dire at times the Rebels had to call on usual key reliever RJ Hively to start at one point in the season.
