Pitchers

LHP/OF Jake Brentz (2013/Ballwin, MO): Brentz had pitched a grand total of 14 innings in his life before Saturday, so it was hard to know what to really expect. Even with no expectations, the 6-2/190 converted outfielder surpassed them, pitching mostly in the 92-94 mph range from a surprisingly polished low effort delivery and arm action. One veteran scout mentioned the name of LHP Scott Elbert, the Dodgers 2004 first round pick out of Missouri and now a big league reliever, as a good comparison. Brentz will be pitching in the Iowa Spring League this spring, where his anticipated match-ups with Iowa’s A.J. Puk should attract huge crowds of scouts.
