12u Championship Recap: Day 3

Jordan Posway
Teams made one final push for the championship bracket on day three of the PG Super25 12u National Championship at East Cobb. Eight squads will begin bracket play tomorrow morning at 9:00. Here’s a recap of the action from a pivotal day three:

The Atlanta Angels held a two-run advantage heading into the fourth inning, but the Dirtbags-Black would turn the tables with seven runs in the final two innings. The Dirtbags captured the lead in the fourth inning after Mason Everhart’s three-run bomb. They tacked on four more runs in the fifth to stun the Angels 7-2.

After their loss to the Dirtbags, the Angels’ ensuing game versus the Perfect Game Royals was a must-win. Fortunately for the Angels, they would prevail 11-8 after a five-inning shootout. Gabriel Bryant contributed three RBIs to the Angels’ cause with a pair of RBI singles.

The Houston Heat clobbered the IBAHS Knights 16-2 after an extraordinary twelve-run third inning. Trevor Vaughn, Brennan Harrell, and James Hitt combined for nine RBIs on seven hits. Houston’s twelve-run rally brought the game to an end after three innings. The Heat would finish the day 2-0 following their 6-5 triumph over the Upper Deck Cougars.

With ten runs in the opening three innings, the Banditos coasted to a 13-2 victory over Team Wilson. The Banditos combined for three home runs, including Cameron Moore’s three-run shot in the fifth inning.

The Banditos continued their offensive tear against the Home Plate Chilidogs-Kearns on Field 2. Gavin Kash, Tyler Collins, and Casen Neumann clubbed a trio of home runs as the Banditos crushed the Chilidogs 10-3.

The West Georgia Warriors-Meigs trounced SBO Elite PR in five innings. The Warriors jumped out to a five-run lead in the top of the first and never relinquished the lead. Blake Mathews and Garrett Madliak teamed up for four hits and six RBIs in the Warriors’ 13-3 win.

The Warriors ran out of gas in their following match-up versus Team Rawlings PBF. While the Warriors tailed off, Team Rawlings picked up steam with eight runs in the final three innings. Daylan Pena’s clutch third inning grand slam sparked Team Rawlings’ 9-4 comeback victory from a three-run deficit.

It was an evenly matched contest between the Upper Deck Cougars and the IBAHS Knights on Field 6. The Knights jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first thanks to a two-run triple by Mario Zabala. The Knights held the lead for the majority of the game, but Trey Rucker and the Cougars surpassed the Knights in the sixth inning to steal the win 8-6.

Cooper Krause drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning of Team Wilson's 3-2 triumph over the Cincinnati Spikes. Carson Mynatt struck out six batters in as many innings, and was named the winning pitcher.

The Home Plate Chilidogs-Carnazzo tied the Dirtbags at two runs apiece in a six inning contest on Field 4. Unfortunately for the Chilidogs, they could not muster up a win against the Dulins Dodgers either. The Chilidogs looked dominant early, but the Dodgers would erase a seven-run deficit to snatch the 10-7 victory. The momentum shifted in the Dodgers' favor after Ty Simpson’s three-run bomb in the second inning.

The East Cobb Astros rocked the Concord Cannons 15-3 on Field 7.  The Astros concluded the game in spectacular fashion as they tacked on another nine runs to their total in the final inning. James Tibbs and James Stevenson contributed six RBIs on a pair of three-run bombs. Tibbs homered twice against the Cannons and tallied five RBIs.

The Cincinnati Spikes’ game versus the Home Plate Chilidogs-Kearns and the Alabama Elite’s contest against the Indiana Baseball Club were postponed due to thunderstorms.
