Twenty teams hailing from Iowa to Puerto Rico flooded the East Cobb Baseball Complex to compete in the 2015 PG Super25 12u National Championship. Thursday marked the first day of pool play, and teams looked to start off on the right foot. Here’s a quick recap of the events from day one:

The North Florida Gators split today’s series versus the Banditos and the Cincinnati Spikes. In their first game, they faced Drake Varnado and the Banditos. The Gators’ offense managed just three hits off of Varnado. The Banditos’ ace commanded the hill for all six innings and earned the win. Mason Marriott’s two-run double in the fifth inning propelled the Banditos past the Gators 4-2. North Florida’s next game versus the Cincinnati Spikes ended with the same score, however, the Gators ended up on the winning side. Ryan Brown had a banner day with seven strikeouts as the Gators edged the Spikes 4-2.

The Dulins Dodgers scored early in often in their convincing 8-2 win over the Perfect Game Royals. Blaze Jordan recorded a game-high three RBIs with a single in the first inning and a two-run bomb in the third.

Jordan continued his impressive day against the Dirtbags-Black. He crushed two more homers in the second and fifth innings of the Dodgers' 10-6 win. The Dodgers dug themselves out of a two-run hole with a seven-run explosion in the fourth inning. Slate Alford kicked off the Dodgers’ rally with an RBI single to left field.

The Houston Heat snatched a victory from the Concord Cannons thanks to late game heroics by Trevor Vaughn. His clutch three-run double in the top of the sixth erased a two-run deficit and the lifted the Heat over the Cannons 7-6.

Seven runs in the final three innings launched the Upper Deck Cougars past the East Cobb Astros 7-3 in six innings. Isaiah Coupet pitched a complete game four-hitter with five strikeouts. Joshua Medina’s two-run shot over the right field fence highlighted the Cougars’ late surge.

Team Rawlings PBF fended off a late comeback bid by the SBO Elite PR and held on for the 6-5 victory. Team Rawlings outhit the SBO Elite eleven to three, but the Elite benefited from Team Rawlings’ three errors.

While Team Rawlings racked up six runs against the SBO Elite, they could barely manage a hit off of Ethan Wood, who was a revelation on the mound and at the plate for Indiana Baseball. Wood struck out six and allowed one run over four innings of work. He drove in three runs courtesy of a fourth inning home run and a fifth inning double as Indiana Baseball trounced Team Rawlings 9-1.

The Concord Cannons’ sixth inning outburst came up one run short in their 7-6 loss to the IBAHS Knights. The Cannons strung together four runs in the final inning but they could not surmount the Knights’ five-run lead. Mario Zabala had a wonderful day at the dish with a single in the second inning and a home run in the fifth.

The Alabama Elite and the West Georgia Warriors-Meigs traded the lead three times, but the Elite would come out on top 9-6. The Elite dug themselves out of a three-run hole with a five-run rally in the fourth inning. The Elite grabbed the lead for good following Hunter Elliot’s two-run double to left field.

It was a fantastic day to be a Home Plate Chilidog. The Home Plate Chilidogs-Carnazzo defeated the Atlanta Angels 8-1 thanks to a solid three innings from Antonio Gleaton. He allowed a meager two hits in three scoreless innings from the rubber. Not to be outdone by their counterparts, the Home Plate Chilidogs-Kearns had an impressive win of their own. Michael Maginnis was in a league of his own as he recorded a grand slam in the third inning of the Chilidogs’ 10-4 drubbing of Team Wilson.
