14u Championship Recap: Day 5

Jordan Posway
Two teams remain after the semi-final round of the PG Super25 14u National Championship came to a close. The KBC Blue and the East Cobb Astros will square off tomorrow in the National Championship game. Here’s a recap of the action from day five:

It was an extra-inning affair as the KBC Blue butted heads with FTB Mizuno in the semi-finals. The KBC Blue found themselves down 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth after surrendering the go-ahead run in the top of the inning. However, late game heroics powered the KBC Blue past FTB Mizuno. Ullom John’s timely triple to center field brought home the tying run, which set the stage for McGinness Casey's walk-off single. With the 5-4 semi-final victory, the KBC Blue qualified to participate in the PG Super25 National Championship game.

The Kentucky Prospects could only muster up two hits against Justin Wrobleski, whose East Cobb Astros cruised to a 8-0 semi-final win. Jack Alexander had a phenomenal day at the dish with three hits, including an RBI double in the fifth inning. The Astros erupted for eight runs off of 13 hits, and they hope to carry their momentum into tomorrow’s PG Super25 National Championship game versus the KBC Blue.

The Legends Prospects finished strong in their 9-1 triumph over the KBC Red with eight runs in the final two innings. Josh Cerretani and Adam Parady spearheaded the Prospects’ five-run fifth inning with four RBIs on two extra-base hits. Ian Libby pitched all five innings and earned the win.

The Marucci Bulls overcame a two-run deficit in the seventh inning to stun the GoWags RiverCats. Two errors by the RiverCats brought the score to a 7-7 tie, but it was Blake Mullen’s RBI single that would put the Bulls over the top. Simeon Woods retired the side in the seventh inning to secure the Bulls’ victory 8-7.

Peter Ciuffreda was a force on the mound and the base path as the Diamond Jacks nudged the Michigan Blue Jays 2-1 in seven innings. Ciuffreda was nearly unhittable in his three scoreless innings of work, but it was his steal of home plate in the sixth inning that put the Diamond Jacks on top for good.

Luke Dabbelt and the East Cobb Astros edged the South Florida Prospects 4-2 in a seven inning contest. Dabbelt swung a hot bat, finishing the day 2-2 with an RBI single in the second inning.

The Oklahoma Rawlings Prospects came out swinging against the Adirondack Heat-Black with five runs in the first two innings. William Osmond and Noah Barber teamed up to quell the Adirondack offense in the Prospects’ 6-3 victory.

The Austin Banditos-Ford scored early and often as they trounced the Zoned RedHawks in a short five inning contest. Chandler Freeman, Kory Schmidt, and Rhett Trlicek combined for six RBIs as the Banditos rolled to a 12-2 win.

Joseph Wolf of the Dallas Tigers-Hernandez was a revelation from the mound, pitching six scoreless innings en route to an 8-0 triumph over the EM Majors. The Tigers recorded four extra base hits, including Brenden Dixon’s two-run double in the top of the sixth inning.

The RI Eagles never relinquished their lead to the Game Time Bulls after establishing a four-run advantage in the first inning. Kyle Bicho led the first inning rally and earned the save as the Eagles held on for the 7-3 victory.

The Tri-State Arsenal and HP Baseball matched each other run for run, but neither team would emerge victorious as the game resulted in a 2-2 tie.

The East Cobb Astros will clash with the KBC Blue tomorrow morning at 10:15 in the Jet Blue Player Development Complex with the PG Super25 14u National Championship title on the line.
