Warriors Survive Catch42 Rally

Jordan Posway
In the 12U Perfect Game Super25 Southeast Super Qualifier championship game, there can only be one winner. Teams from Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee all aimed for a chance to play in the qualifier championship game, but alas, only two teams could have that privilege. Catch42 of Snellville and the West Georgia Warriors of Carrolton, Georgia were the last two teams standing, yet only one team would earn a berth in the National Championship.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first inning, but the stalemate would not last long. The West Georgia Warriors opened up the scoring in the top of the 2nd inning on an error by the opposing catcher to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. Another error and a steal of home plate increased the Warriors’ lead to three going into the bottom of the second.

Catch42 were quick to respond with a three run inning of their own. A home run by #10 Bradley Favors gave his team a spark with a solo shot over the right field fence. Catch42 scored two more runs on a single by #14 Jackson Schulz and an error by the Warriors.

Scoring resumed in the top of the 4th inning for the Warriors as their bats came alive to blow the game wide open. The Warriors managed to steal home for the second time this game to give the Warriors a 4-3 advantage. An RBI double to center and an error by the opposing first baseman allowed three more runs to cross home, but the team from Carrolton was not done there. They capped off an impressive scoring display with an RBI single to give them a seemingly insurmountable 8-3 lead going into the bottom of the 4th inning.

Catch42 was held scoreless until the bottom of the 5th inning when they came roaring back. A pair of singles and an RBI ground out to second base brought Catch42 to six runs on the day, only two runs from tying it all up. However, the Catch42 rally would come to a halt there.

The Warriors added a ninth run in the game courtesy of a sacrifice fly in the top of the 6th while retiring the side in the bottom of the inning to secure a 9-6 Warriors victory and a berth in the national championship. The 12U Perfect Game Super25 National Championship will take place July 16th through the 21st at the East Cobb Baseball Complex in Marietta, Georgia.
