2017 Top Prospects

Ricardo De La Torre  SS - 2017 - Juana Diaz, PR
Auburn

A PG All-American and the 49th ranked player in the 2017 class, De La Torre has all the physical tools to be a high pick next June both on offense and defense.

Santis Sanchez  C - 2017 - Las Piedras, PR
Uncommitted

Sanchez was the surprise prospect of the showcase and a definite potential pro draft next June. He has elite level arm strength and defensive skills behind the plate and lots of bat speed and raw pop in his bat.

Jose Marcano  SS - 2017 - Humacao, PR
Broward CC

Marcano came into the event as the 227th ranked player in the 2017 class rankings and showed potential pro level tools in all areas of the game. He's a 6.6 runner who threw 93 mph in drills and has lots of right handed bat speed.

Ian Matos  OF - 2017 - Toa Alta, PR
Alabama State/Galveston College

Matos was outstanding offensively in the games, with hard and loud contact almost every time up. That didn't obscure the fact that he's also a 6.5 runner with a ton of outfield arm strength.

Yashviel Estrada  RHP - 2017 - Caguas, PR
Uncommitted

Estrada was the best pitching prospect at the event and has a bright future if he can get stronger. He didn't throw a fastball under 87 mph for four innings, topping out at 89, and showed good feel for his curveball and change up.

Carlos Diaz  OF - 2017 - Caguas, PR
Broward CC

Diaz can absolutely fly, as his 6.31 sixty indicates. He also has the type of loose projectable build and strong arm that would tempt coaches in the States to make sure he got a turn on the mound.

Nelson Hopkins Medina  C - 2017 - Toa Baja, PR
Uncommitted

Medina is a very good all around athlete with quickness and developing strength. He stood out defensively behind the plate but also has a polished and sound hitting approach.

Osvaldo Berrios Flores  RHP - 2017 - Juncos, PR
Alabama State

Flores has a strong and very projectable 6-2/200 build and a very long and loose arm action on the mound. He topped out at 89 mph and impressed with his ability to throw his fastball for strikes.

Angel Gonzalez  OF - 2017 - Aguirre, PR
Alabama State

Gonzalez looks the part of the prospect with a very projectable 6-2/170 build and has outstanding run and throw tools, with a 6.6 sixty and big 92 mph arm strength from the outfield.

Jose Yadiel Martinez  OF - 2017 - Aguas Buenas, PR
Cuyahoga CC

Martinez has outstanding run and throw tools, with a 6.43 sixty to his credit and 91 mph outfield arm strength. He's going to have to add some strength to his 150 pound frame to improve as a hitter.

Jean Barreto  OF - 2017 - Caguas, PR
Uncommitted

Barreto swung the bat very well in games and has an aggressive high contact approach at the plate. He also ran a 6.7 and threw 93 from the outfield.

Shawn Ross  3B - 2017 - Fajardo, PR
Clarendon College

Ross has more strength than his listed 6-0/180 build indicates and flashed big bat speed and power at the plate. He also has all the tools you'd want to see in a third baseman defensively, including a plus arm and quick soft hands.

Joab Gonzalez  SS - 2017 - Arecibo, PR
New Mexico Junior College

Gonzalez needs to get stronger to take advantage of his barrel to ball skills at the plate but his athleticism and defense is top notch.

Alexander Castro  RHP - 2017 - Luquillo, PR
Florida

Castro has a young middle infielder's build physically and a loose and whippy arm that produced a live fastball that topped out at 88 mph. He threw two different types of breaking ball and developed better feel for them the more he used them.

Kenneth J Gonzalez  C - 2017 - Arecibo, PR
Uncommitted

Gonzalez is very polished defensively behind the plate, as most Puerto Rican catcher's are, and has the athleticism to back up the skills.

William Jeffry  OF - 2017 - Caguas, PR
Uncommitted

It may take Jeffry a bit longer to develop the strength to drive the ball than many of his peers but his 6.5 speed and loose and strong arm stand out.

John Louis Rodriguez Perez  SS - 2017 - Caguas, PR
Wabash Valley College

Rodriguez Perez has a very nice right handed swing that will keep improving as he add strength. He also has a long and loose arm in the infield with 90 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Yadiel Flores  RHP - 2017 - Yabucoa, PR
Uncommitted

Flores has a young and very slender 6-2/160 build but a long and loose arm that produced a mid-80's fastball and upper 70's slider, both of which should continue to pick up velocity.

Andre F Colon  SS - 2017 - Coamo, PR
Jefferson College

Colon has a nice projectable 6-1/175 build and lots of athletic tools, including very good arm strength and 6.70 speed.

Bryan Lopez  OF - 2017 - Cidra, PR
Uncommitted

Lopez was one of the best hitters at the showcase, with a quick and short left handed swing that produced consistent line drive contact both in BP and in the games.
