2017 Top Prospects

John Swanda  RHP - 2017 - Des Moines, IA
Nebraska

The Des Moines Native and Nebraska commit flashed his polished, athletic tools throughout the weekend. Swanda topped at 95 mph while throwing across the infield in defensive works with smooth actions while working to the baseball. His arm strength and whip also impressed on the mound sitting in the mid to upper 80's, topping at 89 mph. Controlled the barrel well throughout zone in batting practice producing loud, rising line drives.

Jack Dreyer  LHP - 2017 - Johnston, IA
Iowa

The University of Iowa commit showed a simple, repeatable delivery while creating very good downhill plane from an over top arm slot. Fastball consistently sat between 85-87 mph with heavy actions to the plate. Curveball had 12/6 shape with very tight spin and excellent depth. Dryer has a very composed presence with the ability to spot up to each edge of the plate.

Joel Thompson  C - 2017 - Council Bluffs, IA
Kirkwood CC

The 6-2 Iowa commit showed polished tools behind the plate and offensively. Thompson has very good arm strength paired with a quick release, popped a best 1.84 in defensive workouts. At the plate Joel has quick, compact hands to contact creating solid bat speed to the pull side gap. Repeats his swing well with a high contact approach.

Gregory Bennett  MIF - 2017 - Peosta, IA
Middle Tennessee State/Iowa Western CC

The 5-11, 175 Ib middle infielder/ outfielder showed impressive arm strength from each location topping at 89 mph from the outfield and 88 mph from the infield. At the plate Bennett an aggressive approach with present bat speed that can produce loud contact to the outfield gaps.

Bryan Truitt  RHP - 2017 - Caledonia, IL
Iowa Western CC

The 6-2, right handed pitcher showed a loose, extended arm action from a three-quarters slot. Fastball had solid life through the zone with good running action topping at 87 mph. Maintained his arm speed well with slider that generated sharp, late tilt. Changeup has good fading action down in the zone as well. Proved to be very difficult for hitter to identify.

Connor Schultz  RHP - 2017 - Cedar Falls, IA
Butler

Schultz is an athletic 6-3, 185 Ib pitcher with plenty of room to add strength. While on the mound, Connor flashed solid sinking action down in the zone with a fastball that topped at 86 mph. Maintained arm speed with off speed that flashed two planes with good feel. Continues to improve with each event he has attended.

Izaya Fullard  3B - 2017 - North Liberty, IA
Iowa/Kirkwood CC

The North Liberty, IA native showed a compact path to contact with a naturally lifted plane through extension. Has present bat speed and strength with the ability to work the baseball to all fields. Consistently produced loud contact in batting practice as well as in game play.

Tyler Hillman  MIF - 2017 - Pella, IA
North Dakota State

The Pella, IA product flashed his athletic actions throughout the weekend. Ran a 6.79 sixty yard dash. Topped at 88 mph while throwing across the infield with good fluidity and has a smooth, naturally lifted swing plane at the plate. Baseball jumped off the barrel very well producing rising line drives to the gaps. Hillman also topped at 85 mph while on the mound, creating solid downward angle to the plate.

Jordan Wendel  C - 2017 - Schaller, IA
Butler

The 6-1 210 Ib catcher showed very compact, quick actions while working through transfer with good arm strength topping at 85 mph. Wendel showed polished, smooth game actions while behind the plate in workouts and game play. At the plate has an uphill swing plane that generated good leverage through the baseball. Produced hard, line drive contact throughout batting practice.

Anthony Alepra  RHP - 2017 - Cedar Rapids, IA
Northwestern

The Cedar Rapids native showed a loose, extended arm action from a three-quarters slot. Hide the baseball well while releases with some crossfire action. Fastball has good life through the zone with occasional heavy actions, topping at 85 mph. Alepra generates good cutting action with his changeup wile maintaining a deceptive arm speed that matched his fastball.

Connor McCaffery  OF - 2017 - North Liberty, IA
Iowa

The Coralville native and University of Iowa commit flashed very athletic actions with his 6-5, 200 Ib frame. Ran a 6.94 sixty yard dash and topped at 85 mph from the outfield. Generated solid linear shift from lower half into contact. Flashed very good strength and bat speed through the zone the produced very loud contact to the pull side gap.

Adrian Cotton Jr  RHP - 2017 - Gretna, NE
Concordia University (Nebraska)

Cotton Jr. has a good tool set that showed 89 MPH arm strength from the outfield. He has a big physical frame with a lot of present strength. Cotton Jr. has good bat speed and has shown a lot of pop when he squares it up. He also pitched and was up to 87 MPH off the mound. Cotton is a solid two-way guy with upside both ways.

Keaton Candor  OF - 2017 - Merrill, IA
Concordia University (Nebraska)

The Lemars, IA native showed good hitting tools at the plate showing good bat speed and made loud contact. The ball jumped off his bat when he squared it up and it produced 94 MPH exit velocity off the tee. He also showed solid tools in the outfield topping out at 83 MPH.

Bryce Simon  OF - 2017 - Cascade, IA
Morehead State/Southeastern CC

The Cascade, IA native showed good defensive tools throwing 89 MPH from the outfield and covering good ground. He's showing improving hitting tools at the plate with bat speed and a short path. Simon also showed good game swings collecting a few hits.

Ethan Hayes  OF - 2017 - Cedar Falls, IA
Wartburg College

The Cedar Falls, IA native showed good arm strength from the outfield throwing 89 MPH with some carry. He showed a tight swing path to the baseball with some bat speed and flashed some barrel skills. Hayes showed some bat speed and some extension in his swing.

Ryan Riddle  C - 2017 - Omaha, NE
Central College

The 5-11, 175 Ib Omaha, NE native showed clean, compact actions while behind the dish. Generated stiff, on line carry to second base topping at 84 mph with a pop time of 1.85. On the mound Ryan topped at 83 mph producing solid downhill plane with running action.

Brett McCleary  C - 2017 - Iowa City, IA
Iowa

The Iowa City native generated very good downhill angle with a fastball that topped at 83 mph. Flashed a curveball with 11/5 shape that had tight rotation and late, sharp depth. Was impressive behind the plate as well popping a 1.87 to second base. McCleary has solid fast twitch actions with explosive footwork. Brett's hands come through the zone with smoothness creating a naturally lifted plane. Baseball jumped off barrel well while consistently squaring up contact throughout batting practice.

Dane Randall  OF - 2017 - North Liberty, IA
Uncommitted

The Iowa City native flashed smooth, athletic actions from the outfield and the infield topping at 87 mph from the outfield and 84 mph form the infield. Randall also ran a 6.81 sixty yard dash. Has a compact, direct swing plane through extension producing solid, rising line drives to the gaps.

Andrew Zapka  RHP - 2017 - Willowbrook, IL
Uncommitted

The Willowbrook, Illinois native impressed while on the mound. Showed a fastball that topped at 87 mph with heavy actions to the plate that effectively jumped on hitters. Also showed good feel and command for a curveball that had tight rotation and good sweeping depth to glove side.


2018 Top Prospects

Clayton Nettleton  RHP - 2018 - Davenport, IA
Kirkwood CC

The University of Iowa commit has a long, loose arm action from a high three-quarters slot. Fastball jumped out of his hand very well topping at 90 mph. Flashed great command of his changeup that had solid fading action in the low 80's. Created good extension at finish producing solid downward angle to the plate.

Brayden Frazier  IF - 2018 - Cedar Rapids, IA
Iowa

Frazier stood out during batting practice generating hard, line drive contact to all fields. Has present bat speed and strength at contact that produced consistent tight back spin. Stays very balanced throughout swing with the ability to drive the baseball through the outfield gaps.

Will Christophersen  RHP - 2018 - Bettendorf, IA
Michigan State

The Bettendorf, IA native has a simple, repeatable side step delivery. Showed a long, smooth arm circle while releasing from a loose three-quarters slot. Utilizes lower half well while driving to the plate and clearing hips with ease. Fastball has good life with run in the mid 80's. topping at 87 mph. Mixed in a 10/5 curveball with tight rotation and good downward depth. Consistently kept hitters off balance inducing weak contact.

Nic McCay  RHP - 2018 - Carlisle, IA
South Dakota State

The 6-1, 190 Ib RHP/C was impressive on the mound, behind the plate and at the plate. On the mound Nic consistently filled the strike zone with a fastball that topped at 85 mph. Popped a 1.94 while behind the plate topping at 78 mph. Also showed a smooth, repeatable line drive swing plane with present bat speed and strength.
