2018 Top Prospects

Kj Wells  RHP - 2018 - Elon, NC
High Point

Wells posted the top velocity for the event up to 89 mph, regularly working his fastball 86-88 mph with good life. He used a long arm action and big arm circle and deception on the mound. He pitched with intent, challenging hitters and showed feel for both a slider and a curveball.

Brooks Bengtson  OF - 2018 - Rockville, MD
High Point

Bengston stood out in every facet of the workouts and then carried it over to games. He posted a 6.87 time in the 60, threw 92 from the outfield and took impressive batting practice driving the ball to all fields with strength and bat speed. He pitched as well up to 86 mph with natural cut on his fastball and broke out an impressive curveball to boot.

Kyle Decker  OF - 2018 - Fletcher, NC
Appalachian State

There may not be a player that caused more havoc for opposing pitchers than Decker. He showed a simple, short swing to the ball with loose wrists and barrel feel. Once on base he was a constant threat to steal, showing off some of his 6.97 60 speed with a strong first step and good instincts.

Ryan Kircher  LHP - 2018 - Pittsburgh, PA
Kent State

Kircher was another impressive arm from this group, using a long, loose arm action from an extended three quarter arm slot. His fastball worked in the mid 80's and topped out at 88 mph with arm side life. He showed a big breaking curveball in the mid 70's as well as a changeup.

Jack White  LHP - 2018 - Athens, GA
Michigan

White is a very projectable left handed pitcher with a super loose, clean arm action. His fastball worked in the mid 80's and topped out at 85 mph and should continue to tick up. He also showed good feel for his 11/5 curveball that worked as a swing and miss pitch.

Daniel Ouderkirk  RHP - 2018 - Penn Laird, VA
West Virginia

Ouderkirk stood out the moment he walked out to the mound standing at 6-9 with incredibly long limbs and immense physical projection. He had been up to 89 mph as recently as this past summer, but worked effectively at 83-86 mph with minimal effort and a long, loose arm action that helps project him for a velocity jump in the coming future.

Chance Howard  RHP - 2018 - Princeton, NC
University of North Carolina-Charlotte

Howard opened eyes in the workout portion of the event with a very strong arm from the outfield, pumping 88 mph with carry to the bag. He showed good feel at the plate as well with bat speed, strength and quickness to his hands. He also pitched and showed feel for his changeup.

Matt Burke  OF - 2018 - Weddington, NC
Presbyterian

Burke showed good athleticism right off the bat posting one of the better times in the 60 yard dash at 6.83. He showed strong fielding actions in the outfield as well with a strong arm to match up to 86 mph. He pitched as well with a deceptive delivery, compact arm action and a fastball up to 82 mph.

Stephen Ridge  SS - 2018 - Charlotte, NC
UNC-Wilmington

Ridge showed strong, athletic actions up the middle with good transfer skills and lateral range. Posted an impressive 6.79 time in the 60 yard dash, and then showed well at the plate. He made consistent, hard barreled contact to all fields with a line drive swing plane and good bat speed.

John Roberson  OF - 2018 - Fredericksurg, VA
Paul D. Camp Community College

Roberson showed good athleticism from a slight build posting a 6.96 time in the 60 yard dash and showed an aggressive first step in the outfield. He showed very quick hands at the plate as well with a line drive swing plane and created good leverage with his swing.

Jonathan Walton  RHP - 2018 - North Prince George, VA
Ferrum College

Walton worked from a short, compact arm action on the mound and filled the zone with his fastball that was up to 82 mph. He showed good feel for his slider and threw it in any count. He also showed good power potential at the plate with carry off of his barrel.

Ethan Williams  C - 2018 - Moseley, VA
Harford CC

Williams is a physically impressive player with good strength throughout his frame that shows up in his game on the field. His arm strength was present from the infield and behind the plate in workouts and then from the outfield in games. He showed good power potential with carry off his barrel. He also pitched and was up to 86 mph on the mound.

Tyler Wilson  RHP - 2018 - Durham, NC
UNC-Wilmington

Wilson is a strongly built first basemen with big time arm strength for the position that carried over to the mound. He showed a direct to the ball approach at the plate and worked the middle of the field. On the mound he showed a loose arm with good feel to repeat his mechanics.


2019 Top Prospects

Cortland Lawson  SS - 2019 - Potomac Falls, VA
Tennessee

Lawson did a bit of everything to standout over the weekend showing smooth actions and a strong arm from shortstop up to 85 mph. He worked up to the ball well with a line drive swing plane and an all fields approach with solid contact. He pitched as well utilizing a long arm action generating heavy arm side life to his fastball that worked 82-85/86 mph.

Cody Benton  RHP - 2019 - Cerro Gordo, NC
UNC-Wilmington

Benton has a large, physical frame at 6-3/205 with present strength. He threw from a 3/4 arm slot with good arm speed on the mound and a compact arm action. His fastball worked 83-85 mph and hit 86 mph and spun a late breaking slider at 79 with replicated arm speed.

Conner Matzuga  RHP - 2019 - Wake Forest, NC
Uncommitted

Matzuga has a projectable build on the mound and utilized a low 3/4 arm slot with good arm speed up to 84 mph. He mixed in a slider with 10/4 shape with feel to spin it. He showed good rhythm at the plate as well with a line drive swing plane.

Sajon Belser  OF - 2019 - Ashburn, VA
Delaware State

Belser offered very high end athleticism in his game starting with a 6.83 time in the 60 yard dash and used it well, being disruptive on the bases. He showed good bat speed at the plate with a short, compact swing that generated carry. He moved well in the outfield as well with good routes and aggressive charges.

Zack Michael  OF - 2019 - Apex, NC
Uncommitted

Michael showed a very strong arm for his age from the outfield up to 86 mph and showed a long arm action with a clean transfer. He ran well in the 60 as well with a 6.87 time in the 60 yard dash and used the speed in games. He also showed quickness to his hands at the plate with decent carry when pulling the ball.

Bennett Smith  SS - 2019 - Charlotte, NC
Army

Smith impressed as an underclass player with impressive actions up the middle and a strong arm as well. He threw 85 mph across the infield with quick footwork, soft hands, and a quick transfer.


2020 Top Prospects

Liam Norris  LHP - 2020 - Cary, NC
North Carolina

For being just an incoming freshman, Norris certainly posesses the physical attributes listed at 6-3/180 with tremendous projection and athleticism. Worked his fastball 83-85 mph and hit 87 mph with good downhill action and arm side life, mixing in a power curveball as well at 73 mph. He also showed good power potential at the plate, driving the ball effortlessly off his barrel with carry.

Alex Greene  OF - 2020 - Edgewater, MD
Virginia

Greene is another physically impressive incoming freshman listed at 6-0/170. He showed exceptional arm strength from the outfield up to 87 mph. He used a ton of intent in his swing with big torque through his lower half and showed good bat speed.

Nic Britt  SS - 2020 - Chesapeake, VA
William & Mary

Britt showed tremendous fielding actions for his age with a quick first step, transfer and release skills, and fluidity through the ball. He threw 83 mph across the infield and saw the arm strength shift over to the mound where he topped out at 79 mph with a short, compact arm action.
