2015 Top Prospects

Cole Baker  RHP - 2015 - Grimes, IA
Iowa

Baker continues to improve in small but very noticeable increments. He pitched at 88-91 mph, with plenty of 91's, and pounded the strike zone in three quick and efficient innings.

Christopher Comito Jr  RHP - 2015 - Norwalk, IA
Iowa

It looks like Comito has made some adjustments to simplify his delivery and arm action and they resulted in a solid outing. His 78 mph curveball had its normal power break and he touched 90 mph for the first time at a PG event.

Luke Farley  OF - 2015 - Denver, IA
Iowa

Farley hit a monster home run during batting practice that likely ended up in someone's yard across from Veterans Memorial Stadium. He also went through drills in the infield and looked like he had some potential as a third baseman moving into the future.

Bryant Jordan  RHP - 2015 - Fredericksburg, TX
Abilene Christian/Howard College

Jordan didn't show the low 90's fastball he did in the fall and winter but pitched in the upper 80's with a loose and quick arm. Improving his curveball will be the next step in his development.

Eric Senior  OF - 2015 - Toronto, ON CAN
Uncommitted

Senior has a very projectable 6-3/180 build and lots of present tools that will keep developing. He showed both the ability to drive the ball hard to the pull side and also to make adjustments in games to make solid opposite field contact.

Drew Denkinger  RHP - 2015 - Johnston, IA
St. Louis

Denkinger didn't have his upper 80's/low 90's fastball this weekend, sitting at 84-86 mph, but he did throw an impressive 94 mph from the outfield. What he did show that was noteworthy was a new and very promising change up that had consistent slider/cutter action.

Chase Hager  OF - 2015 - Davenport, IA
Iowa Western CC

Hager looks like he has all the tools to be a prototype centerfield/top of the order player. His 6.67 speed really played well in the games and he has the strength to create some real bat speed at the plate.

Ty Ramirez  RHP - 2015 - Greendale, WI
Creighton

Ramirez is a strong and athletic righthander with a scholarship to pitch at Creighton. He looked good once he started to mix his slider and change up with his mid-80's fastball.

Paul Rupnik  OF - 2015 - Newmarket, ON CAN
Newman

Rupnik came to Cedar Rapids from Ontario and showed a well rounded tool set, including a quick right handed swing and lots of tools and instincts in the outfield on defense.

Jack Rasmussen  RHP - 2015 - Ankeny, IA
Minnesota State

Rasmussen has a big strong build and throws from a low effort delivery. He had a heavy mid-80's fastball that was very effective when down and flashed quality to his change up and slider.

2016 Top Prospects

Connor Kimple  OF - 2016 - Whitefish Bay, WI
Louisiana-Lafayette/South Mountain CC

Kimple was the star of batting practice, hitting three no doubt bombs and driving several more balls off the wall. The 6-3/210 right handed hitter uses an Albert Pujols-style spread stance that he executes extremely well. He also ran a 6.66 in the sixty and threw 88 mph from the outfield.

Spencer Van Scoyoc  LHP - 2016 - Cedar Rapids, IA
Arizona State

Van Scoyoc hasn't got his arm strength up to mid-season form but his curveball was a nasty weapon that he overmatched hitters with. He also swung the bat well enough to remind everyone why he's a two-way prospect.

Keaton Winn  RHP - 2016 - Ollie, IA
Mississippi State/Iowa Western CC

Winn keeps improving on the mound and still projects to get better. He topped out at 90 mph on his fastball and showed hard spin on his breaking ball as well.

Grant Judkins  3B - 2016 - Pella, IA
Iowa

Judkins continues to impress as a two-way prospect and there is no reason for too much speculation what will end up being his best position. He was 87-89 mph off the mound and hit a big home run during the Sunday game.

Kyle Crowl  MIF - 2016 - Council Bluffs, IA
Iowa

Crowl had a solid showcase, collecting three hits in one game and consistently swing the bat well. The Iowa commit also ran a 6.95 and threw 89 mph in infield drills.

Brady Stover  LHP - 2016 - Huxley, IA
South Dakota State

Stover throws from a very patient and calm delivery and has very good command to both sides of the plate of an 84-86 mph fastball. His breaking ball was on the border between curveball/slider shape and velocity but impressed with its tight spin.

Matt Sartwell  RHP - 2016 - San Ramon, CA
Cal State East Bay

Sartwell has a very projectable build to go with a loose arm that produced a fastball up t0 87 mph that should continue to pick up velocity. His curveball flashed hard spin when he maintained his arm and body speed.

Kidany Salva  C - 2016 - Houston, TX
Sam Houston State/Angelina College

Salva is a young Puerto Rican with lots of quick twitch ability and athleticism that especially shows itself on defense behind the plate. He's also a switch-hitter with a sound contact oriented approach from both sides.

Brody Gugat  RHP - 2016 - Sioux City, IA
NIACC

Gugat is a big and strong young man at 6-5/218 and throws from a low effort simple delivery. His fastball topped out at 86 mph and he showed a big power break on his curveball when he stayed on top of it.

Max McCay  C - 2016 - Carlisle, IA
Central Methodist College/Kirkwood CC

McCay is only 5-8 but he plays much bigger in games because of his energy and skills. He's very polished defensively and really swung the bat well in his two games.

Cal Stalzer  SS - 2016 - West Des Moines, IA
George Washington/Kirkwood CC

The 5-10/150 Stalzer still has some growing to do but he has a really nice swing and offensive approach and consistently hit the ball hard in BP and in the games.

Spencer Wiskus  C - 2016 - Coralville, IA
Indiana State/Kirkwood CC

Wiskus showed very well with the bat and even went 5-5 at the plate on Sunday. He also showed good receiving and blocking skills behind the plate.

Luke Van Rycheghem  C - 2016 - Kent Bridge, ON CAN
Stetson

Van Rycheghem is a Canadian with big left handed strength at the plate and a big arm from behind it. He showed good athleticism and energy in his receiving and blocking during the games.

2017 Top Prospects

Heliot Ramos  OF - 2017 - Maunabo, PR
Florida International

Ramos came to Cedar Rapids from Puerto Rico and we're glad he did. He made the defensive play of the event with a perfect throw to the plate to nail a runner, ran a 6.7 and showed strength and bat speed at the plate.

Austin Mihlbauer  LHP - 2017 - Mukwonago, WI
TCU

Mihlbauer has a very loose and whippy arm from a mid-3/4's arm slot that produced a steady 86-88 mph fastball with big life on it at times. He threw exclusively fastballs to hitters, so we're anxious to see his secondary pitches in the future.

Patrick Sisk  3B - 2017 - Fox Point, WI
Chattahoochee Valley CC

Sisk is already strong enough to hit at 6-3/205 and generates very good bat speed right now. Perhaps even more importantly, he shows an advanced feel for hitting even though he is just a sophomore.

Cam Baumann  LHP - 2017 - Fairfield, IA
Iowa

Baumann topped out at 83 mph but has touched higher in the Spring League and defines projection in a young pitcher. Both his change up and curveball were very nice pitches as well.

Izaya Fullard  3B - 2017 - North Liberty, IA
Iowa/Kirkwood CC

Ono-Fullard has an extra strong 5-9/195 build for his age and he uses that strength well to create very good right handed bat speed. His defensive tools for third base are also very solid.

Jarred Wood  RHP - 2017 - Cedar Rapids, IA
Northwest Missouri State

Wood has the type of frame at 6-3/195 to keep getting stronger and is already throwing consistently in the mid-80's from a long and loose arm action.

Ethan Hayes  OF - 2017 - Cedar Falls, IA
Wartburg College

Hayes is a very projectable 6-2/175 sophomore who showed a variety of tools and skills. He has lots of young bat speed from the right side and also impressed with his defensive ability in the outfield.

Griffin Doersching  1B - 2017 - Greendale, WI
Northern Kentucky

Doersching is an extra large young man at 6-4/245 and he uses that strength very well to generate bat speed and power in his swing. His bat speed stood out among all showcase hitters in the Zepp testing.

2018 Top Prospects

Connor Van Scoyoc  RHP - 2018 - Cedar Rapids, IA
Arizona State

Spencer Van Scoyoc's younger brother is improving quickly and will be high level prospect. He topped out at 84 mph with bat breaking life and showed one of the best change ups of the showcase.

Brayden Frazier  IF - 2018 - Cedar Rapids, IA
Iowa

A freshman, Frazier has already got notice as one of the best hitters in the Spring League and he continued to show his advanced hitting tools this weekend. He's going to be a fun one to watch develop over the next few years.
