College Baseball Chat (2:00 p.m. CST) | Friday Recap | Saturday Recap

As noted in Saturday's recap, not much change to the college baseball top 25 team rankings was expected heading into the weekend. Two of the three programs that went 1-2 faced fellow ranked opponents. The biggest series of the weekend, previously ranked No. 6 Texas vs. No. 21 Rice, was split evenly between the two teams, 2-2. Stanford, ranked No. 22 to open the year, faced an Indiana program that clearly had some payback on their minds, even if it was under new leadership, and a new supporting cast.

Because of that, all of the teams previously ranked in the top 25 remain in the rankings. Oklahoma State takes the biggest step back, dropping from No. 13 to 19, although we fully recognize this is a talented ballclub that wasn't playing at full strength this past weekend. Texas falling two spots didn't even feel right after splitting their series with Rice, although we do have reservations about the strength of the Longhorns' pitching staff over the course of the season (not to mention the strong showings of both Louisiana State and Houston just behind them).

Cal State Fullerton proved that the preseason concern about their offense was more than legitimate, but did a nice job re-grouping on Sunday to take down No. 9 Louisville and avoid entering panic mode so early in the season.

Although it should be pointed out that No. 1 Vanderbilt went 2-1 on the weekend and were really close to being 1-2, which would have created significantly more heated discussions among PG's college team Sunday evening.

One team to keep an eye on more than the rest? North Carolina. Reports on the Tar Heels were especially encouraging, especially from a deep and promising freshmen class. Fans will be in for a treat this coming weekend when No. 5 UCLA travels to Chapel Hill.

We'll hit the chat room at 2:00 p.m. central time to discuss opening weekend and the subsequent rankings update. Please visit this link to get your questions in.
