2017 Top Prospects

Ethan Gallagher  OF - 2017 - Catonsville, MD
Wake Forest

Strongly listed at 6-foot-2, 220-pounds Gallagher put all his tools on display and after performing in the outfield he proceeded to run a 6.84 60-yard dash. However it's his righthanded bat that's his loudest tool as he consistent barreled up ball hard to all fields, including a home run to dead center field that cleared the 420' on his final swing of batting practice.

Conor Hartigan  OF - 2017 - Winchester, VA
James Madison

Hartigan is a long and loose 6-foot-1 outfielder who showed big arm strength from the outfield topping out at 90 mph with a fluid arm action and consistent, easy mechanics. His swing is very short and quick with leverage at the point of contact with loud jump and solid carry coming to the pull side. He's committed to Coastal Carolina.

Daniel Alvarez, Jr.  SS - 2017 - Bronx, NY
Pittsburgh

Alvarez is listed as a University of Pittsburgh commit and you can see why by watching him play. The middle infielder posted a 6.60 60-yard and he impressed defensively with big arm strength across the diamond up to 87 mph. His strength plays well in his swing too as he shows solid bat speed and quickness to his hands.

Patrick Morrissey  RHP - 2017 - Howard Beach, NY
St. Thomas Aquinas

Morrissey had one of the more dominant outings on the mound, reaching 87 MPH with his fastball and just throwing it right by hitters. His velocity plays up due to a combination of arm speed, deception, and a low 3/4 arm slot; all of which make it very difficult to pick up.

Wilfrido Valenzuela  LHP - 2017 - Paterson, NJ

Valenzuela had an outstanding event, showing one of the quickest arms of the event when on the mound, reaching 84 MPH with his fastball and mixing in a hammer curveball and really advanced changeup. He threw strikes with all three pitches consistently and projects for more moving forward.

RJ Liverpool  OF - 2017 - North Chesterfield, VA
Uncommitted

Liverpool is listed at a physical 6-foot-1, 195-pound but yet is still full of fast-twitch muscle as he ran an exceptional 6.63 60-yard dash. With the bat he showed nice lift to the swing path with loose wrists and whip to the barrel thanks to quick hands which helped produce some hard contact coming off.

Patrick Barrett  RHP - 2017 - Manahawkin, NJ
Seminole State College of Florida

Barrett worked 80-85 MPH with his fastball from a near-sidearm arm slot, generating a ton of running life and some sink on the pitch. His fastball is extremely tough to hit squarely, and he got a lot of weak contact with the pitch. He also showed a solid slider that works to keep hitters off balance.

Sam Beck  RHP - 2017 - Warren, NJ
Lynn

Beck is listed at 6-foot-4, 205-pounds and projects nicely with room to add extra strength. He shows nice tempo and rhythm to his delivery while utilizing his lower half well, helping to generate a fastball that bumped 85 mph with good angle and heavy life.

Gerald Buchanan  OF - 2017 - Olney, MD

Buchanan showed solid tools throughout the weekend both offensively and on the defensive side of the ball. From the outfield he was up to 88 mph with his best throw showing good carry while with the bat he was able to create consistent and hard line drive contact with nice jump off the barrel.

Sean Downey  3B - 2017 - Elizabeth, NJ
Felician College

Downey is a strong, 6-foot, 190-pound third baseman who showed the ability to handle the barrel of the bat all weekend. His swing is short and quick and he uses his strength well to generate solid strength off the barrel to all fields. The arm action is clean and the ball comes out of the hand well from the outfield.

Thomas Holdorf  UT - 2017 - Freehold, NJ
Seton Hall

Holdorf was impressive in everything he did over the weekend. He handles the barrel extremely well when hitting, with fluid hands and the ability to make hard contact to all fields. He also worked 80-83 MPH on the mound with big projection; and was among the best defenders in the entire event at first base.

Mason O'Mara  RHP - 2017 - Shrewsbury, NJ
George Mason

O'Mara projects really well on the mound due to a combination of size and arm speed; and he was dominant in his outing during this event. He worked up to 83 MPH with his fastball with lots of late life on the pitch, and mixed in a sharp slider and quality curveball as well.

Spencer Perez  RHP - 2017 - Berlin, NJ
Rowan College at Gloucester County

Perez is a strongly build righthander who still shows physical projection and impressed during his time on the mound. His mechanics allow for good drive out of his lower half and he sat 83-85 mph with solid downhill life and was able to mix three pitches for strikes with the changeup serving as the strongest secondary.

Forrest Ruiz  OF - 2017 - Pawling, NY

Forrest Ruiz looks the part with a high waisted 6-foot, 187-pound frame and he showed the tools too. He's a lefthanded bat who shows some strength and leverage to the pull side and he also ran a 6.78 60-yard dash. He also topped out at 89 mph from the outfield with a short and fast arm action that produced solid carry out of the hand.

George Sutherland  OF - 2017 - East Northport, NY
St. Louis/Cochise College

Sutherland showed a couple of loud tools and a good feel for the game in this event. He ran a blistering 6.59 60 yard dash, and showed excellent feel for the barrel when hitting. He employs a simple swing path with loose wrists and hands, and showed well both in game and during batting practice.

Michael Zamora  SS - 2017 - Brooklyn, NY
Alvin CC

Zamora has a well-polished overall game, and stood out both offensively and defensively. He has very quick feet in the infield with range to both sides and the smooth actions necessary to play the middle infield; and showed good bat speed with strength and lift off the barrel when hitting.

Travis Zurita  OF - 2017 - Ozone Park, NY

Zurita put together a nice all around showcase, showing athletic actions in the outfield and sound foot speed as evidenced by his 6.73 60-yard dash time. His hands are easy and loose at the plate and he shows comfort to work all fields with a short and quick path.


2018 Top Prospects

Riley Maypother  RHP - 2018 - Wall Township, NJ
East Tenn State

Maypother was excellent across all parts of the game in this event. Despite not being a primary pitcher, he was up to 87 MPH with lots of life and showed a sharp slider as well. He has a lot of strength in his swing, with good bat speed and hard line drive contact; and showed clean actions with plenty of arm strength in the infield as well.

TJ Scuderi  OF - 2018 - Beachwood, NJ
Brookdale CC

Scuderi is another interesting young prospect from the event and he showed well in many facets. A primary outfielder who threw 87 from the outfield and ran a 7.08, also up to 83 mph on the mound, Scuderi handled the barrel well while showing a simple, easy swing that creates solid present strength at the point of contact.

Will Gambino  RHP - 2018 - Haddonfield, NJ
Kentucky

Gambino is a solid athlete who's listed at 6-foot-3, 210-pounds with square shoulders and still projects nicely over the next two years or so. The arm action from the outfield is full and fluid, producing an event best 91 mph with good carry and ride out of the hand. He's a switch-hitter who shows solid extension out front with hard contact to the middle for the field from the left side.

Brad Brush  RHP - 2018 - Toms River, NJ
Delaware

Brush is a young prospect who showed interesting two-way potential throughout the showcase. A primary righthanded pitcher, Brush was up to 87 mph with his fastball on the mound with a repeatable delivery. While swing the bat he also impressed as he generated solid extension out front and was able to lift the ball to all fields.

Chris Gerard  P - 2018 - Wayne, NJ
Virginia Tech

Gerard has advanced arm strength from the left side, and it showed up both on the mound and in the field. He was up to 84 MPH off the mound with lots of plane to the plate, commanding both the fastball and his very good 12-6 curveball to both sides of the plate. He threw 88 MPH from the outfield with easy actions; and projects extremely well.

David (Trip) Willis  OF - 2018 - Elkton, MD
James Madison

Willis has a long and lean 6-foot-2 frame and plenty of athleticism that projects well moving forward. He's an excellent runner as his 6.77 60-yard would indicate and he uses that speed well in the outfield where he shows solid range and a strong arm. Willis also handles the barrel very well from the right side and creates hard line drive contact to all fields .

James Cardinale  OF - 2018 - Commack, NY
Hofstra

Cardinale is a super-projectable young left-hander with feel for three pitches, a loose arm, and solid command of his entire arsenal. His fastball was up to 81 MPH and projects for more, his curveball has good sharpness when he's on top of it, and the changeup comes off the hand cleanly with lots of fade.

Johnny Castro  3B - 2018 - New York, NY
Uncommitted

Castro has an extremely projectable build and projects to throw even harder in the future. He was up to 82 MPH in this event with a long, loose arm action and good angle to the plate. He also mixed in a solid curveball, and showed as an excellent defender in the outfield as well, with arm strength up to 85 MPH.

Frank Spano  LHP - 2018 - Bloomingdale, NJ
Holy Cross

Spano is a long, lean pitcher with a very projectable build and arm. He worked 80-84 MPH with his fastball and projects for more velocity, with a very quick arm and lots of plane to the plate. He also mixed in a curveball and changeup, both of which project well moving forward.

AJ Ward  SS - 2018 - Little Falls, NJ
Shenandoah University

Ward handled the barrel from the right side of the plate very well all weekend, squaring balls up both in batting practice and against live pitching. His swing is short and his hands are quick, two traits that helped generate hard line drive contact while shifting his weight well through his lower half. He also ran a 6.93 60-yard dash.


2019 Top Prospects

Jack Leiter  RHP - 2019 - Summit, NJ
Vanderbilt

Leiter, the son of former MLB pitcher Al Leiter, is a young pitching prospect who will be on every college coach's radar soon enough. Showing a fastball that was up to 85 mph with sinking life and command to the bottom of the zone, Leiter also showed a nice slider with tilting life and an 11-5 curveball that featured hard and late depth.

David Shoemaker  LHP - 2019 - State College, PA
Pennsylvania

Shoemaker was highly impressive over the weekend, getting up to 83 MPH with his fastball from the left side and showing an easy, repeatable delivery. He also has a swing-and-miss curveball with plenty of depth. He's a name to watch moving forward for sure.

Robert Buecker  SS - 2019 - Allentown, NJ
Army

Buecker is a baseball player and though he's listed at 5-foot-7, 145-pounds he showed a strong feel and understanding for the game on both sides of the ball. His defensive tools and quick feet play well up the middle and with the bat he's able to generate nice bat speed and employs an all fields approach. He was also up to 81 mph on the mound.

Jacob Denner  LHP - 2019 - Closter, NJ
Michigan

Denner is a highly projectable lefty, showing a fastball up to 80 MPH with more velocity coming, and a sharp curveball with tight spin and lots of depth. He also shows advanced barrel feel when hitting, showing the ability to repeatedly hit the ball on a line to all fields.
