Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League Top Prospect List (20)

In what was a rematch of the 2015 championship, the Bethesda Big Train and Baltimore Redbirds met again to determine who would earn the 2016 league crown. Rebounding from a second place finish a year ago, the Big Train came out on top. The three-game series between the two teams was as close as possible with the combined margin of victory in all three games being five runs.

Each side was also honored with a player of the year distinction. Vinny Esposito took home player of the year honors and was hailed for his power potential from managers across the league. Hunter Parsons led the impressive pitching staff for the Redbirds and earned pitcher of the year with a 1.40 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings.

TOP 10 PROSPECTS

1. Mike Rescigno, rhp, Baltimore (Maryland/SR in 2017)
Rescigno declined the offer of the Giants as their 25th round pick this past spring to return to Maryland for his senior season. Rescigno is a power-armed righthander with a fastball that works in the mid-90s with regularity and hit 97 mph during the league all-star game. He’s worked as a reliever exclusively since joining the Terrapins and did so as well this summer for the Redbirds. His curveball shows as an average secondary pitch with his curveball and his changeup works as a fringe average third pitch. His command has taken steps forward each season and did so again this summer, striking out 19 batters in 15 2/3 innings while only walking five. Working effectively with his fastball and his breaking ball offer him a strong two-pitch mix at the tail end of the bullpen.
