The state championships are coming in droves as we wind down towards the end of the high school baseball season across the nation. Mainstay states like Florida, Georgia, Arizona, South Carolina and others have already wrapped up their seasons, with others like California and Texas still playing. 

In this week's edition, the top five remain the same as it was a week ago. Marjory Stoneman Douglas (Fla.) captured the 9A Florida state championship this past week, and they remain in the top spot. Walton (Ga.) won the 6A title in Georgia, Archbishop McCarthy won their fifth 8A title in six years in Florida; and Barbe (La.) won yet another 5A state title in Louisiana. They remain at Nos. 2, 4, and 5 respectively, while No. 3 Coppell (Texas) knocked off previously-ranked Flower Mound as they get deeper and deeper into the playoffs. 

A whole bunch of state champions find themselves on our list this week. A list:

In what was described to me as the single greatest high school baseball series of all time, Summerville (S.C.) defeated J.L. Mann (S.C.) to win the state title in the state of South Carolina. A three-game series that Summerville won, with each game being decided by a single run with a whole host of NCAA Division I talent on display. A huge congratulations goes out to both teams, who each remain ranked this week. 

Several newcomers also find themselves in the rankings this week for the first time. North Davidson (N.C.) at No. 16, Farragut (Tenn.) at No. 19, Gaither (Fla.) at No. 23 (after winning the 7A title in Florida), Greenup County (Ken.) at No. 26, Basic (Nev.) checks in at No. 39 (after winning the D1 title in Nevada), Battlefield (Va.) is at No. 43 while Saline (Mich.) represents the greatest state in the union at No. 46. 

We will be taking a break from the rankings next week as we let the dust settle a bit from all of the playoffs (and let a few of the other states finish up their seasons), then we'll be right back at it the following week.
